#1 How do ascribed and achieve statuses serve to identify who a person is in a culture? What are
Status is a belief that the society gave to particular individuals based on different identification
that distinguish level of position in the society. Achieved status is a social position that people
earned or acquired in their life time, which can reflect his/her ability, skill, and it can also be the
negative things that he/she done in the past. On the other hand, ascribed status is a status that one
person is born with or had no control over it like beauty or race. As an element of social
structure, status have impacts on one’s identity and how that individual is seen in a particular
culture. Master status is the term used to describe statues that directs others and thereby
determines that person's position in a society. Such identification has a negative or positive
impact in the society. In early periods, the statues given to the African Americans contributed to
many kinds of challenges in many aspects of their life. Reference group is a group we compare

Social role is that someone holds particular status and are expected to have certain behaviors.
