LITERATURE SURVEY

Washing by hands

Laundering by dry hand involves soaking, beating, scrubbing, and

rinsing dirty textiles. Before indoor plumbing, the housewife also had
to carry all the water used for washing, boiling, and rinsing the
laundry; according to an 1886 calculation, women fetched water
eight to ten times every day from a pump, well, or spring. Water for
the laundry would be hand carried, heated on a fire for washing,
then poured into the tub. That made the warm soapy water
precious; it would be reused, first to wash the least soiled clothing,
then to wash progressively dirtier laundry.

Washing by machine

Clothes washer technology developed as a way to reduce the manual

labor spent, providing an open basin or sealed container with paddles
or fingers to automatically agitate the clothing. The earliest machines
were hand-operated and constructed from wood, while later machines
made of metal permitted a fire to burn below the washtub, keeping the
water warm throughout the day's washing. The earliest special-purpose
mechanical washing device was the washboard, invented in 1797 by
Nathaniel Briggs of New Hampshire.

By the mid-1850s steam-driven commercial laundry machinery were on

sale in the UK and US. Technological advances in machinery for
commercial and institutional washers proceeded faster than domestic
washer design for several decades, especially in the UK. In the United
States there was more emphasis on developing machines for washing at
home, though machines for commercial laundry services were widely
used in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The rotary washing
machine was patented by Hamilton Smith in 1858. As electricity was not
commonly available until at least 1930, some early washing machines
were operated by a low-speed, single-cylinder hit-and-miss gasoline
engine.

This project is to design an automatic washing machine that will

perform all washing tasks utilizing the technology of Embedded Systems

The advantages of washing machine .

This is an android based washing machine having some special feature

like it can be controlled wirelessly through your phone. And also some
advantages as follows.

o time

Washing machine saves your time. Although washing cycle of the

washing machine take much time, but you do not have to wash, you just
throw the clothes into the washing machine, press the start button, the
function button and start the wash cycle. While waiting the finishing of
the process, you can do a lot of other works such as cleaning the house,
cooking, education .You do not have to take a long time to wait for the
drying of clothes. Because in the process, there is very little water left on
clothes.

 Effort

When washing clothes by hand, you lose a lot of energy to pitcher

clothes, rinse, wring and clean clothes. With washing machine, you do
not. How comfortable!
 Size

There are many different styles and sizse of washing machine which fit
your house. If your apartment is small, you can select the washing
machine with small or medium size. If your house is large, choose the
washing machine with larger size.

 Cycle

Washing machines have different cycles depending on the amount of

clothing and type of clothes you want to clean. You can use the heavy
cycle for much clothing, and light cycle for less clothes. With wool or
silk clothes you should use the vapor cycle. It will take away the stains
on your clothes easily.

The disadvantages of washing machine

 If washing machines have strong points like convenience and time
saving, then it also has its bad point. Some bad points of washing
machine are taking too much the electricity, detergent powder, and
water. Using a washing machine really needs electricity to activate
so monthly, we will have an additional electric bill. It also takes
much expensive detergent powder and water more than hand
washing.
Besides, it makes people lazier. Because they are too dependent on the
washing machine. Daily, they throw the clothes into the washing
machine and operate the machine. It makes them do not want to do
exercise and of course they do not want to wash clothes by hand. They
feel tired, hard with handing washing.

Cleaning clothes by machine is quite expensive. You take much money

to buy machine and then to maintain. And price of water, detergent
power, and monthly bill cost is not cheap.

 Electronic part can misbehave any time

Future scope

For increasing the range of this system Wi-Fi can be used in place of
Bluetooth.
