Magical Creature Presentation

There are many rich magical creatures in The Mortal Instruments Series. There are creatures
such as angels, Nephilim, demons, vampires, and other creatures. Choose one of the magical
creatures and find out more about them. Research other books and movies that cover the
subject, and compare the world found there to the world of The Mortal Instruments. Create a
presentation about the history of the creature you've chosen and the different ways it has shown
up through literature throughout the years.

Content
• Your presentation needs to focus on the magical creature you have chosen from The Mortal Instruments
Series: City of Bones. You may work alone or in small groups of 3-4.
• Be the expert on the topics you are discussing in your presentation. Make sure to do background
research so you can answer questions.
• Your presentation should include the following sections: Introduction/Background, Creatures’ role in the
novel, Creatures appearance in other literature works, Conclusions, and References.
• Presentations should be no longer than 15 minutes, with questions. Plan for 3-4 minutes for questions.

Professional Presentations
• Each group is expected to create a professional presentation using presentation software (PowerPoint,
Keynote, Prezi, etc).
• Tips on using presentation software:
o Use consistent and simple backgrounds, fonts, and colors
o Vary your presentation by using bulleted lists, tables, columns, and appropriate figures and
images
o Limit the number of words you use, use key phrases
o Balance text with figures and white space
o Be consistent with the types of fonts and colors you use
• Practice as a group before the day of your presentation.
• Edit your presentation (there should be no grammatical errors)
• Make eye contact with the audience and limit the use of needless words (um, uh, hm, etc).
• Organize your presentation so it "flows"
o A typical presentation is organized as follows
§ Title Slide
§ Overview of presentation
§ Introduction and background
§ Creatures’ role
§ Creatures appearance in other literature works
§ Conclusions
§ References (do not forget references!)

Sections of the Presentation
1. Introduction and Background

magical creature and why you have chosen it. Make sure you use at least 3 references (approved by your
instructor) for your introduction and background section.
2. Creatures’ role
This section should outline the roles of your chosen magical creature. You should use the novel as your
main reference and use one example from the text.
3. Creatures appearance in other literature works
In this section, you should present your findings of other literature works that your magical creature has
appeared in. Visual graphic. Make sure you can explain your findings. Include a compare and contrast of
how the magical creatures are in the novel and in the other literature text.
4. Conclusions
In this last section, you should wrap up your presentation and highlight the research significance and
findings.
5. References
You should include references from your research.
