Preservice Teacher: Bialia Lor Observer: Melissa Pirkl

Time:1:00 Grade: 3rd Grade

1. What are your goals and objectives for this lesson?

My main goal for the lesson will be to remember to give out all directions that I
need to. I will also try to manage how materials can be passed out more
productively.

You did better with remembering routines for students to receive materials and
better with transitioning kids to quiet, independent work! :) Also, students
understood the directions and were engaged in the lesson!

2. What are some specific things you would like observed?

During independent practice, were students more productive?

Yes, absolutely! They were quiet, focused, and taking their work seriously!
That isn’t to say that all work times have to be quiet, but it is more of a challenge to
ensure productivity with partnerships or groups, you just have to keep that in mind
when structuring those times with clear expectations and goals.

To be completed by the Observer:

3. Strengths to continue to build on:

- You made connections to prior experiences/lessons.

- Great questioning
- Great job encouraging student discourse
- Set clear goals for lesson and activity
- Calm, loving demeanor
- Guided students to ground their ideas with textual evidence
- Commented on the positive.
- Called on students following expectations
-

4. Suggestions for future lessons:

- If students cannot hear your voice, use a different method such as the bell or
clapping.
- It’s okay to shut down silly responses that don’t reply. It’s also okay to find
gentle ways to move on when students are sharing for a long time and you
know it’s not entirely helpful for the lesson.
- Don’t be afraid to redirect students who are being disruptive, especially if
you’ve given the expectation and you’ve complimented those following
directions, but a student is still not following directions. There are gentle, but
firm ways to do this.
