and then sent home with your child.

Current Learning:

Fundations: This week we will begin Unit 12 (one week focus). Students will
practice 2 more vowel teams: oi and oy. Both of these vowel combinations
make the /oi/ sound. They will learn that oy is used only at the end of a syllable,
while oi is used at the beginning OR in the middle of a syllable.
For example, oi-coin- /oi/ & oy-boy- /oi/ (They both make the same sound)

Trick words: favorite, early, ocean

Please check your child’s take-home-folder for their Unit packet.

Math: This week we will begin Unit 7- Measurement, Fractions & Multi-Digit
Computation with Hungry Ants. This week students will learn that the average
length of a worker army ant is one centimeter. Students will create army ant
rulers to estimate and measure the lengths of objects in centimeters. The class
will then work together to combine ten rulers to make a meter and we will spend
time measuring longer lengths and distances in meters.

Reading:

Writing: Informative writing. Students will go through the process of the Scientific
Method. They will pose questions, research, form a hypothesis, test experiments
that focus on force and motion, and analyze their results. I love this unit! It has a
strong focus on inquiry and science!
