ASR 920

ASR920 connected to the GM.

SyncE
 Check if the "synchronous mode” command is configured on the interface.
On all 920, Gi0/0/7 is used for connecting GM and BDI 707 and 2566 is used.

Capture Synchronous mode

 Check if the SyncE source is properly configured as to where the GM is
connected and the ESMC SSM QL-mode is enabled

 Check if the esmc process is enabled.

1|Page
Show commands for SyncE:

 Show network-clock synchronization- Need to receive PRC. SSU-A, SSU-B or

SEC is not desirable.

 Show esmc interface GigabitEthernet 0/0/7 detail – Check ESMC packets are
sent and received.

 Check if the ptp is in hybrid mode and both the profiles slave and master are
configured with their transport addresses LB301 and LB300 respectively.
Sh run | Sec PTP

2|Page
 Show ptp clock running domain 0 - Check what is the state of PTP and are we
receiving ptp packets from Master

Check status of Clock: Phase Aligned state.

 Check if the master ip is reachable with our slave interface LB301.

3|Page
 Show commands for PTP:
#sh ptp port running detail - Check if we are receiving clock class 6 from the
Master (GM).

ii. #show platform software ptpd stat stream 0 | s Curr|ST- Check the offset
value, it should be in 2 digits after the decimal point

ASR9K AG2 connected to the 920.

 Check if the ESMC SSM QL mode is itu-t option 1, clock-interface timing-

mode system specifies that the output of a clock interface is driven by the
system-selected timing source.

 Check if the physical interface towards 920(Master) has frequency

synchronisation and selection input with priority 1 (Primary syncE) configured
and the interface with other priorities will be considered as B-syncE.
Sh run interface

5|Page
 Check if “frequency synchronisation” is configured on interfaces towards
slaves which will derive frequency from AG2 i.e port towards AG1s.
Note: “Selection input” is not needed here as it is not a syncE input source.

Sh run interface – Check on which interface profile is configured as interface

and then check on that interface Frequency synchronization is configured.

 Show frequency synchronization selection – Check if the interface with

priority 1 is receiving PRC and is locked with that frequency source for the
active RSP (here 0/RSP0/CPU0).

6|Page
 Show frequency synchronization interfaces brief- Check the interfaces
enabled for syncE and the SSM QL received and transmitted on each.

 Check if the global ptp configuration is configured with default class 248, slave
profile with proper master ip (LB300 of 920) and sync and delay-req rate as
64pps. The Minimum clock class should be 7.

7|Page
 Check if the ptp profile ‘SLAVE’ is configured on the interface towards 920
Identify the interface with BDI 707

8|Page
 Check if the ptp profile MASTER is configured on the interface towards slave
i.e AG1.

 Check if the static route is configured for lo300 of 920(Master) and Lo301 for
AG1s (slave).

Show commands for PTP:

 #Show ptp platform servo – Check the status of ptp , sync and delay
timestamps getting updated.

9|Page
Device Status to be captured

 #show ptp foreign-masters best – Check if the best master is sending clock
class 6.

 #show ptp interfaces brief – Check if the AG2 is advertising clock class 6.

 #show ptp interfaces brief – Check all the ptp enabled (slave and master)
interfaces.

 Sh version :

Version to be captured.

ASR903 AG1 connected to the AG2.

SyncE
Note: The syncE configuration commands are the same for ASR903 and 920 platforms
a. Check if the "synchronous mode” command is configured on the interface.

b. Check if the syncE source is properly configured as to where the interface towards
AG2 and the ESMC SSM QL-mode is enabled.

c. Check if the esmc process is enabled.

11 | P a g e
Show commands for SyncE:

 #Show network-clock synchronization - Need to receive PRC. SSU-A, SSU-B or

SEC is not desirable. The priority 2 syncE is the Backup SyncE which is DNU(Do
not use) here because it is sending PRC on that interface to avoid clocking loops
(as shown in below snap).
