T
his month’s Armour in Focus
feature, looking at the Victory Day
Parade in Moscow earlier this year,
led me to reflect on the historical context
of our hobby. It seemed slightly ironic, as
we stand on the verge of another Cold War
between Russia and the West, that a
magazine like this should run a feature on
contemporary Russian AFVs. Imagine a similar thing happening
forty years ago, at the height of the Cold War, when
images of new Russian armour were, at best, grainy
photographs that some dissident had risked his or
her life to smuggle out of the Soviet Union! The fact
that Russia’s T-14 Armata features in all its glory (and
from every angle) in the pages of this (a modelling)
magazine and we are already discussing the merits of
a 1/35-scale kit of the vehicle says a lot about the
nature of information in the twenty-first century.
Couple this with the numerous videos available online
of the conflicts in Syria, Iraq, Ukraine and elsewhere
and we have a situation where modellers are
overloaded with
information and inspiration
for future projects.

Our main feature this

month, as I said, is our Armour
in Focus article, looking at the
AFVs employed by the army of
the Russian Federation and, in
particular, the new T-14 Armata
MBT. Russian armour is the
theme once again of Mark
Chisholm’s latest article: a build
of Trumpeter’s BTR-60PU. It’s
Russian armour of a different era for Marian Bunc who
returns with an article based upon Tamiya’s venerable
SU-85 and a good dose of History. It’s also a welcome
return to the pages of this magazine for Vladimir Yashin
who presents an interesting project based around IBG
Models’ Field Kitchen and ICM’s Opel Blitz. Then it’s back to
the modern era with José Luis Lopez Ruiz who tackles an
unusual subject in Gaso.Line’s Quartescale Gulf War AMX-
30B2. As well as these, we have our usual selection of
in-depth reviews (including Meng Models’ Flakpanzer
Gepard), news and a show report. Until next month, happy
modelling.

a great opportunity to showcase your new items at a cost
effective price and reach a truly world wide audience.
The images we select are not chosen by David and his team,
so bare in mind I am not a modeller and I choose the images
that I like, as always I am amazed by the quality of the builds no
matter what it is and a personal favourite of mine are the
dioramas you build… the reason I do not build models apart
from sticking my rather clumsy fingers together and putting
the wrong bits in the wrong place, I would never come close to
any of the models I post., so I will stick to my hobby of
supporting the Premier League Champions (now that has got a
few of you) and leave the exceptional quality builds to you girls
and guys….
Lets get our page to 40.000 by the next issue so do share and
like our page contact me for any ideas you would like to see on
our page and in the magazine and thank you to David and his
team for putting together another fantastic issue and not
forgetting you our readers for buying your copy of Military
