Entry-level: I feel that a class discussion is a quick way to assess student prior knowledge
of the content. Including a guided handout with questions and responses can be very
useful as well.

Formative: Pop-quizzes are a way to assess student progress and understanding. Quizlet
and Brain-pop can also make it very fun. Flash cards for new vocabulary terms are also a
great way to assess students’ understanding. I like to use graphic organizers in order for
students to show me how they are organizing the new information. Lastly, a pros and cons
worksheet shows me they know the differences in relation to human activities and Earth.

Summative: I am not much for general test taking; however, in science that is sometimes
necessary. I would rather students present information to me in a written a paper and
presentation. Showing me that they understand and comprehend the completed unit.
