Prologue

1. What does it mean that Romeo and Juliet are “star-crossed” lovers?

It means Romeo and Juliet’s relationship is doomed because of the feud


between their families.

ACT I

Scene i

1. What are Sampson and Gregory talking about at the beginning of the
play?

Sampson and Gregory are talking about taking girls from montagues and
“thrusting” them against the wall.

2. What does Benvolio do when he encounters the servants fighting?

Benvolio draws his sword but then asks the men to put down their wepons
and make peace.

3. Who makes the fight much worse after Benvolio arrives?


Tybalt

4. What does the Prince say he will do if more fighting occurs?

He says that he will begin to take lives.

5. What does Montague notice about his son Romeo?

He notices that Romeo locks himself up in his room and shuts the curtains
to block out light

He is in love with Rosalind who does not love him back.

Scene ii

1. What does Paris want from Capulet?

He wants Juliet’s hand in marriage.

2. How does Capulet respond?

Capulet says that he does approve of paris, but he first needs Juliet’s
consent

house?

An illiterate servant asks for help reading who invitations are addresses to.

4. How does Benvolio convince Romeo to come along?

Benvolio tells Romeo that he could get his mind off of Rosalind.

Lady Capulet and the Nurse want Juliet to marry Paris

Juliet says she doesn’t want to get married and doesn’t want to marry Paris

He says that his feelings are too heavy and weigh him down.
