Online Activity Describe

what the learning activity will be as
the students meet with the teacher
In this activity the students will learn about the earth’s rotation
online. What will the students and around the sun and the effect and processes (cycles) that occur
the teacher be doing? (This includes
what they are doing with the
with day and night. Also, how it contributes to the seasons of
technology). the year.

To begin the online session students will log onto site assigned
and read a brief chapter selection on Earth Science, The Earth,
Sun and Moon. At the end of the reading there will be a link to
2 simulations. They will choose and click on a simulation. One is
Phases of the Moon, this activity will enable students to
understand phases of the moon by observing positions of the
Moon, Earth and Sun. They click play and visually watch to see
the Moon go around, they can also click Pause and drag the
Moon to see the phases. Also, the activity displays name of
phases of the moon. A Second simulation, Summer and Winter,
this activity will enable the students to observe the tilt of the
Earth and angles and see why as sun rays/light hit locations at
different angles we have day and night as well as seasons. The
student can click on the activity and visually see after their
selection sun rays that will relate to duration and directness of
sunlight and reset to try various angles and tilts.

Each of the simulations also provide an assessment at the end of

the activity which will provide teacher with knowledge of what
the students learned.
