LKJ : An EERIE ESCAPE

“ Jim, swim quickly ! It just not far behind you !” said by John.
“ Hurry ! Hurry ! It’s a shark ! ” said by John.

I turned my head. I sudden became aware of ripples forming on

the surface of water. My imagination ran wild. To my instinct,
something bad would happen anytime soon, but just I could not
figure it out. I swam as fast as i could to the safe area. i swam
anxiously. On the spur of the moment, john was screaming for
help. After a few batters and exhausts, i reached the edge of the
safe area in the sea. I looked over my enormous shoulder. Moving
swiftly me was an enormous small shark, made me almost fainting.

“ God, please save me form this horrible incident.” I murmmed.

I uttered a prayer, for me, hoping i was saved from this haunting
hour. I froze and the adrenaline hormone increased rapidly, kept
me shivering in fear. Vulnerable and neurotic overwhelmed me.
Fear not senses kept me glued to my spot. Silently, my heart
gripped with fear and my goose bumps had arose my arms and
neck, even as a chill ran down my spine. I bit my lips in agitation. I
held my breath, my heardbeat faster than ever. My hair was
standing on ends and my tears was rolling down, like a running
tape water.

The incident happened two years ago. 17 October was the last day
of my PMR examination. I had invested all of my efforts, patience,
spirit, energy and time to get flying colours result in PMR
examination. The mood after the exam was mundane and
lacklustre. So, to stock myself with funny activities, my friend,
John and I plan to have a journey in Redang Islands. It was the
time for 3 Rs and 1P- Rest, Rejuvenate, Reward and Play. Our
suffer and hard word were ended. We wanted to celebrate our
“indepedence” .

Dad had warned me not to venture anywhere. But, i pushed the

advice back of mind. Dad just gave me his permit to let me went
for a 2 days 1 night trip in Redang Islands althoungh dad actually
unwilling to let me go. I had been advised by dad so that do not go
to the dangerous areas and always be careful. After getting green
lights from my dad, i equipped myself with some necessary to
hangout with John. We reached at the island with taxi and
speedboat. Our resort located by the seaside. We were so suprised
when we saw the white sandy beach, crystal clear water and the
captivating view. It not only is also a suitable place to enjoy the
sunset and sunrise, we can also enjoy snorkelling at the island.

On those particular afternoon, the sun was scoarhing hot with

sultry air and the sky was a magnum opus. We and another tourists
had went for snorkelling in the sea by using a speedboat. Before
snorkelling, the lifeguard told us just can snorkelling in this area
which condoned off by the buoies and rocks. Another area is quick
dangerous because sometimes there was some small shark. But, i
neglected the advice and went snorkerling in the dangerous area
with John. I had entered the dangerous area but John just stayed at
the edge of the dangerous area and unwilling to go in. I had a gut
feeling but i ignore it and snorkelling. Shortly midday we had
entered the area, john yelled nervously. “ Jim! Jim! Quickly swim
back to here. I think something is coming to you! Quickly!”
It was a small shark. I can saw its fin. We screamed helplessly.
Screams of fear could be heard over the din. I just swam quicky to
John. As for me, i felt a asearing pain in my leg. Fortnately, our
screams were heard by two lifeguard who were in the vicinity. Our
liberator -- life guard had dicsovered us. They swam quickly to us
to save us. One of them use a stick to get rid of the small shark and
another one pulled me form the dangerous area. Then, i stunned
with a sign of relief.

Streaks steak of light awake me. When i regained consciousness, i

found myself in a totally unfamiliar environment. The smell of
antiseptic make me
felt uncomfatable and told me that is a clinic in the island. I later
learnt from john that i was just suffered minor leg injury. It is
because the small shark’s not yet had jagged teeth. I felt grateful
because the tonnes of pratice of the lifeguard reached me safe and
sound. Thanks , God. My tears flowed involuntarily from my eyes
wet the pillow.

The next day, we had packed up and went back home. I had told
this incident to my parents. Dad hauled me over the coals and
reminded me how fortune I was to have escaped from the jaws of
the small shark. With trembling hands, mum hold mu hands and
led me in saying a thanks giving prayer and her tears rolled down.
It was a narrow escape. My misery had ended after this
nightmarish affair. Describing this horror of moment such sobering
sight that the images remained imprinted in my mind.

This eerie experience just like a nightmares, it left me with an

understanding of the need for obeying parents' advice. I felt a
twinge of guilt because i made them so anxious. From the incident,
I had a phobia. Phobia of snorkelling in the sea, absolutely no.
Since that day, I felt more grown-up from the grave sin I was
committing and attached to my parents than ever before. Whatever
you do will bear a consequence like the saying goes,'every cloud
has its silver lining'.
