Optional Methods for Assessing or Demonstrating an Employee's Knowledge and Skills
§250.1914 (b) states you ". . . must document that your . . . employees are knowledgeable and experienced in the work practices necessary to perform their job in a safe and environmentally sound manner. . ." Although training records and certifications are the most common
means of documenting knowledge and experience, they are not the only means. In addition to training records and certifications, this tool lists many other possible means of demonstrating an employee's knowledge and skills - education, performance evaluations, on-the-job
training, etc.
Completed, this tool may serve as a record of evidence, but is not intended as the evidence itself. Be prepared to supply records in support of each assessment for each employee whenever asked during a SEMS audit.
The template is generic, thus applicable to any position. The user is encouraged to add additional methods that may be appropriate for the position or employee being assessed.
