Daniel Goleman was the first to introduce the term does emotional intelligence?
to the general public, in their book by 1995, and also the first to apply this
concept to business in this classic article from HBR, published in 1998. In his
research on more than 200 large global companies, Goleman found that truly
effective leaders are distinguished by a high degree of emotional intelligence.
Without it, a person may have the best preparation in the world, an incisive and
analytical mind, and an endless assortment of smart ideas, but even so it will
not be a good leader.
