Interpretation and Analysis
The researcher based an investigation on the factors affecting the factors affecting
the demand Thunderbolt flour in Cornelia Ida, Guyana. The collection of data was
obtained through the distribution of ten questionnaires randomly to residents of the
community. From the ten questionnaires collected, there were 40% males and 60%
females. 10% were from the age group 15-20 years, 40% from 21-25 years, 30%
from 26-30 years and 20% 31 years and older. 50% of the respondents came from
nuclear families, 30% from extended families and 20% from single-parent
families.
10%of the respondents bought flour daily, 60% bought flour on a weekly basis and
30% monthly. This therefore indicates that flour has a high demand in Cornelia
Ida.
70% of the respondents stated they would prefer self-rising flour as a substitute
while 30% would prefer whole wheat flour as a substitute.
It was discovered that if the price of flour increased to $500, 40% of the
respondents will demand 1kg of flour, 20% will demand 2kg of flour 20% will
demand 3kg of flour and 20% will demand 4kg of flour. Therefore, an increase in
the price of the flour would make a difference in the amount of flour demanded.

Demanded

However, if the price of the flour decreased to $300, 10% of the

respondents will demand 1kg of flour, 20% will demand 2kg of flour, 30%
will demand 3kg of flour and 40% will demand 4kg of flour. This is so,
because, according to the first Law of Demand it states that as prices rise
demand will fall (ceteris paribus), and as prices drop demand will increase
(ceteris paribus). Therefore, there is an inverse relationship between price
and quantity demanded.

Demand
The respondents were asked what are the major factors that would affect the
amount of flour demanded and it was discovered that 40% of the respondents
stated price, followed by a change in income which is 30%, followed by taste
which is 20% and advertising which is 10%. This means that the demand of flour
will change as the price changes.
70% of the respondents would consume more flour if their income increases
while 30% of the respondents will not consume more flour if their income
increases. This is so because consumers will have more money at disposal which
allow them to purchase more flour while the other respondents would not increase
the amount of flour consume because they probably have other uses of their
income.
However, it was discovered that if the price increases 40% of the
respondents would consume more while 60% of the respondents would look for
substitute. 40% of the respondents might continue using the product because
thunder bolt flour can be used for the preparation of several food items which other
flours cannot be used for hence there is no close substitute for this product.
Findings
The findings of the study are:
I. The main factors that will affect the demand for flour in Cornelia Ida
are price, change in income, taste and advertising.

II. There is a strong correlation between income and the quantity

demanded for thunderbolt flour.

III. The demand for flour is adverse since as price increases, demand
decrease and as price decreases demand increases.
Recommendations

I. Since thunder bolt flour is inertial commodity and any increase in price will
cause demand to fall. Government should encourage more businesses to
invest which will result in an increase in supply hence a decrease in price.

II. Businesses can improve or add more nutrients to thunderbolt flour since,
people are purchasing it according to taste.

III. Businesses should pay little emphasis on advertising the product

(thunderbolt flour) since a small percentage of persons are influenced by this
variable.

of the respondents leave the questions out while some of the respondents
give random answers.
