King Josiah

Based on 2 Kings 22 and 23:1–25.

Josiah was eight years old when he became king of Judah. He is

known for how he obeyed God’s law and—like his ancestor, King
David—stayed faithful to God.

During the eighteenth year of his reign, King Josiah sent officials
to the temple to organize repairs and the cleaning of the temple.
While working in the temple rooms, old scrolls that contained the
law of God were discovered. When the high priest read the text
to Josiah, the king tore his clothes in dismay (this was done as a
sign of repentance).

King Josiah then called his people to assemble at the temple. He

read the law from the scrolls to the people, and they all made a
covenant with God to keep His commandments and follow His
law. Many reforms were made, and the temple and all the land
were cleansed of the idols they had been worshipping.

Josiah served God with all his heart, mind, and strength, and did
his best to obey the Law of Moses.
