He has gone long way in his persull for over three years and at last has arrived at a very reasonable conclusion. His thesis on this unexplained reasons is clear and convincing. May be, this was ‘explained somewhere by Rishi Parasar, but g0t lost in course of time. Now that Indian Astrology has become e subject of study in ‘our Universities such matters as the prevailant Dasa system and their convincing explanations will be sought for. Shri Kar's good find will not only come in handy but will ‘open the avenue to dig up the lost gems. Sid - Jogendra Chandra Das] 12th July, 2003 PART -1 Among many kinds of Dasa-Periods formulated by sage parasar. his unequal \Vinshattori dasa-period is the best of all. tis based on constelllation-Nakshatra and is ‘completely tallying with the zodiac (360°C) in any angle. We know that there are 12 signs-rashis and 27 const.- nakshetras; extent of each const. is 13° - 20° or 360° + 27 = 120+ 9 = 13°-20° The Zodiac is divided into three segments cof which the first segment from Aries 0° to 120° Cancer. Moon is the main base of this Vinshattori system. There are @ const. found in each segment and they have got 9 names after the 9 planetsie. 1. Ketu-Aswini, 2. Ven- Bharani, 3. The Sun-Kritika, 4. The Moon Rohini, 5. Mars-Mrigasira, 6. Rahu-Ardra, 7 Jup-Punerbasu, 8. Sat-Pushya, 9. Mars- Asiesha. They all repeat in other 2 Segments but in 2 other different names. As for exemple, Ketu=Aswini, Magha and Mula etc. but their quality remain the same. The big factoris that Sign Cancer-Karkart; The Moon rashi is not available in other two segments. Cancer karkat-Moon in other ‘words is our mother earth, has a big role to play in our day to day life and in assessing the dasa-period. From Moon we have leamt fo reckon days, months & years in lunar system by observing her transit from one const. to the other which can be observed at night. The earth is our mother, holds us on her lap, while the moon is see transiting the sky over head, We do not live on the Moon. Since the earth is not a planet in astrological K.P. Year Book - 2006 63parlance, the Moon though a Satellite (upgraha) has got the distinction of a Planet. The Moon moves quickly and its nature is changeable, Forts quick movementwe have leamt to reckon the day first. Next, in natural zodical sign position the 4th sign assigned to Moon and from Moon (4) we consider home, Mother, emotion which has a tremendous impact on living beings elc. So the earth and the Moon are one hnd the same and inseparable and interwoven. But for quick movement of the Moan from ‘one const. to another of course has lastly been diverted to Selar system (Soura Mana) for her anomolus and quick movement from const. to const. Whereas Sun has some of fixety and a rational movement. The synodic period of the Moon ie. New Moon to New Moon or Full Moon to Full Moon covers the zodiac in 29% days whereas Sun moves 1° per day though not exactly uniform but ranging from 57 to 1°-1' is almost acceptalible ie. & 360° in 360 days which take another 5 days more i.e. the Sun circles the zodiac in 365 days and 6 hrs. So the Sun does not depend on the Moon or earth but they themselves depend on the Sun. The sign Leo - Sun is just east of Cancer-Moon- earth, Therefore relation between Sun and Moon or Moon and earth or Sun and earth is interlinked, one without the other two cannot complete the need of times required for our day to day purpose and is very much indisposable. So these Sun-Moon-earth are indossibubly linked and the Moon and the earth are at the command of the Sun But counting of Kala (timings) mostly depends on the Moon, so by-passing the Moon or the Moon sign Cancer for counting of dasa-kala period is not possible. The Moon is a prime factor to play in computing dasa- period and is origin to alll planetary dasas. That is why, Sage Parasar choose the first segment of 120° in which the moon-sign Cancer is available from Aries 0" to Cancer 120°. ‘The Sun is the father of all planets and the stars and controlls the entire solar system i.e. he is the commander of the universe. He regulates inner and outer space planets, as. ‘such, he does not belong te either inner or ‘outer space. he is for all planets. Next the Leo-Sun sign Is just east of Cancer-Moon- earth. Bath have no light of their own. The Moon borrows light from the Sun i.e. the Moon is the reflector of the Sun and dispels ‘the darkness of the earth of the night what other planats cannot do to the earth. Next the Sun-Leo Is east of the Cancer-Moon and at the day-break we can see the light of the Sun. In fact, the Sun is the'life giver and protector of the life. Since the Sun-Moon- earth are interlinked and indossoluble, the Sun and the Moon have become a unit, Their figure is 4+5=9 combinedly and their combination is used to compute dasa-Kala- period. 3 This can be seen from the zodical map from Cancer-Moon to Aquarius-sat and from Leo-simha to Capricon-sat both ways, Start from Leo-simha east ward, nearest planet is Merc. (Virgo-Kanya), then Ven {Libra-Tula), then Mars (Scorpio-Brisah), then Jup (Sagi-Dhanu) lastly Sat (Capri- Makar) 6 sign from Leo-simha to Capri- Makar. Now remove the Cancer-Karkat which is now merged with the sun and forms a unit with the Sun, then (westward) first is Merc (Gemini-Mithun), then Venus (Taurus- Brisha), then in outer space Mars, Aries- Mesh is the first sign rashi of Zodiac, then Jup (Pisces-Meena) and lastly Sat (Aquarious - Kumbha) 6 signé-rashi from Cancer - Moon i.e, 6+6=12 signs, Question is whether Gemini-Mithun is the first sign from the Cancer-Moon or Leo- ‘Sun ig the first one, when the Sun and the Moon become a unit the doubt is over. 64 ICP. Year Book » 200% *Therefore counting from bothways are same and equal Now let us study as to how sage Parasar might have formulates the concept of his great unequal Vinshattori (120 yrs.) We know there are 9 planets assigned to ‘72signs in zodiac. Each planet has two sign rashi except the Moon and the Sun who have ‘only one sign each. This is another reason why they have been considered as a unit, why not others though Merc. and ven are fearest to the Sun. As told earlier that dasa- kala is based on the Sun and the Moon, $6 Sun-Moon are indispensable and unavoidable. Therefore Sun-Moon must be the first, then consideration of the rest will come. GUIDE LINES:- 4, Parasar realized the sigf value of the planets are two (2) except the Sun and the Moon (They have only one sign each) 2. Natural zodical signs are Mars 4 and 8, Moon4, Sun , Ven 2 and 7, Merc 3 and 6, Jup 9 and 12 and Sat 10 and 11 lastly total sign value of each will be 9 except sun and Moon but as a unit they will be read as 9. 2 The process is below : a) Mars 1+8=9 b) Ven 2+7=9 ¢) Merc 3+6=9 d) Moon 4+ Sun 5 (as a unit) =9 e) Jup 9+12=21 Maximum zodical signs are 12. deduct 12 from 21=9 f) Sat 10 + 11 = 21 deduct like Jup= 9 g) Rahu-Ketu have no their own signs but their value will be determined from their Moola-Trikona sign. Rahu in Aquarius- Kumpbha and Ketu in Leo-Simha sign. These natural sign value of 9 will be helpful to computer the dasa-period or separately 4 or 5 if required. 3. To determine natural sign value, counting should be from, Aries-Mesh but, to determine the quantum of dasa- pericd, counting should be either from the Moon sign or from the Sun sign individually or from both the Sun and the Moon jointly when the need be. 4, All countings will follow either from the Leo-Sun of from the Cancer-Moon sign or form jointly, that is 4 + 5=9.0r from total natural sign value of 9 Counting wil follow either way from the Cancer or Leo i.e. towards east or west or forward or backword. 5, Distance value for the signs if required, either from the Moon sign or from the Sun sigf should deeply be taken into consideration with care otherwise quantum of dasa-period would be ahomolous (Range is 6, 10, 7, 18, 16, 17, 19, 7 & 20 = 120), 6. It is better counting should follow towards Moola-Trikona of the planet either way (eastward-westward or forward-backward), 7. Constellation value of one (1) should be added for each planet's dasa- period, because dasa is based on constellation. Figure avallable after counting will be known as ‘points’ which finally be read as ‘years’ for the planetary dasa- periods. 9, From Taurus-Brisha to Libra-Tule-sign are in the Inner space group (east ward) while Seorpeo-Brischik to Aries- Mesh (eastward) fall in the outer space group, As such, Ven-Mere-Moon-Sun and Ketu will be treated in, the inner group. Mars-Jup-Sat and Rahu will be in the outer group. But the Sun being the father of the universe has sway ‘over all the inner-outer planets. So the ‘Sun belongs to bath the groups. Therefore before we study dasa-period formulated by sage Parasar as to why sun = 3 ACP. Year Book - 2005 65dasa = 6 yrs, Moon = 10 yrs, Mars = 7 yrs Merc = 17 yrs. Jup = 16 yrs., Ven = 20 yrs Sat = 19 yrs., Rahu = 18 yrs. and Ketu.= yrs. giving a total of 120 yrs. and why this is based on the constellation of equal longitude but dasa-periods are unequal? If equal longitude was considered, then in that case dasa-periods should have been 13 yrs. 4 months each. we can see below why unequally each te cope up with 120 total ‘We cannot go beyond Parasar's 120- concept but we have to conclude why he had contrived this peculiar figure which astoundingly comes correct to all matters related to any kind of event, so vinshattori itself is self-evident one. Now let us see how did he conceive the length of dasa-period. 4. Why sun dasa is of 6 yrs? a) Natural sign value of Gancer-Moon 4 b) No. of Sun sign =a ©} No. of const. -Krutika 4 Total 6 points 6 Note: Natural sign is one thing and no. of sign value is something different. Two cannot be mixed up together but to be treated separately. 2. Why the Moon dasa is of 10 yrs? a) Natural Sign value of Leo-Sun 5 b) Distance between Cancer- Moon and Taurus-Brisha (westwerd) towards Moola- Trikona of the Moon. 3 '¢) No. of Moon sign wird 1d) No. of Moon-Const-Rohini = 1_ Total 10 points 10 yrs Note:in the case of the Sun, Mon's natural sign is first and in the case of Moon Sun's natural sign is to be reckoned This inter-changing counting means that the Sun end the Moon are indossolubly linked and form a unit, so no doubt in it, Next, total natural sign value of the Moon and the Sun is 4+*5=9asa unit. For Moon dasa, deduct 4 from 9 = 5 and in Moon dasa it is shown. For Sun dasa, deduct 5 from 9 = 4 and utilised for Sun dasa. This inter changing counting once again confirms that Sun-Moon is a unit. 3. Rahu's origin is deemed to be in Aquarius-Kumbha- Sat and Sat has another sign Makara Capricon, so Rahu will qualify both Makara_and Kumbha, as such it will have two nos. of signs. a) Combined sign values of ‘Sun-Moon or total natural sign value like = 3 b) Distance from Cancer. Moon to Aqua-Kumbha (Westward) or Leo-Sun to Capri-Makara Is Six (eastward) = 6 ¢) No, of signs qualifying both Makara-Kumbha 2 d) No. of Rahu const.Arudra = 1 Total Points 18 = 18 years 9. Why Ketu dasa Is of 7 years? Note: Ketu having its Moola-Trikona at Leo- Simha-Sun is deemed to have its own sign and its origin is at Leo-Sun. The sun has only one sign so it will qualify the sun as Rahu does for Sat, a) Natural sign value of the the Sun being the Moon- Trikona of Ketu at Leo- Simha or natural sign value of Ketu like Sun is 5. or 9-4 = § deemed to as Leo 6 b) No. of Leo-Ketu sign 4 ¢) No. of Ketu const. Aswir 1 Total Points 7 “7 years Thus unequal division of Planetary dasa- periods formulated by Sage Parasar is unique and clear as to why Sun = 6 years, Moon = 10 years, Mars =7 years, Merc = 17 years, Jup = 16 years, Ven = 20 years, Sat = 19 years, Rahu = 18 years, Ketu = 7 years giving a total of 120 years appears to be & proven fact. This unequal division of dasa- period seems to be rational and self-evident one among many kinds of dasa-periods introduced by Sage Parasar. PART - II We have tried to prove how did Parasar | achieve 120 years dasa-period on the basis of natural sign value, distance value of the signs and by including one canst. each for the planet in part We will now see how did he divide the ) const. -nakshetra’s longitude (13"'= 21") into sub (Bhukti), sub-sub (anthra) and sub-sub- sub (sooks) for the planetary periods to a subtle point to“decide the moment for an event if required to judge in our life time. The main base is the Moon. If Moon is found in a const.‘the sages set up the tule that @ person begins his/her life in accordance with the star-lord of the Moon, For example, if the Moon is in the star of the Sun’at 26° - 40' in Aries or Leo or in Sagittarius sign the person begins his/her life with sun dasa of 6 years or Moon in Moon star or Moon in Mars star, main or major dase will be of Moon or Mars respectively. All const. are of 13° - 20’ or 800" but the period is determined on the length of period of the planets viz Sun = 6 yrs. Moon = 10 > yrs., Mars = 7 yrs., although length of Const. is same yet length of period is unequal. Again longitude of the sub (bhukti} in gach const. is same but their length of period is according to the quantum of dasa i.e unequal. As for example, Sun's longitute for sub is 40° min but this 40 min longitude of the Sun is same in all const. But period will very according to planet's length of dasa-period 13° - 20' or 800" is to be multiplied by Sun's | length of period of 6 years and is 1o be divided by 120. This 120 is not the total length of all dasa period, together but this 120 is available in the firstsegment of the zodiac i.e. Aries mesh 0 to cancer-Karkat 120° which was Rashi Paraser's own concept, not of anyone else. 68 XP. fear Book = 2006 #Therefore 800 x 6 + 120 = 40 is the longitude of Sun's sub. 800 x 10 + 120 = 4*-6'-40" Moon sub, and so on. Rishis were using them as Amsa-Kala-Bikala which are now in the form of degree-minute and seconds etc. Suppose we do not know much quantity will be the sub period of the Sun but if we apply Parasar's formula we will gef the amount. As for example Sun's sub period will be in the following way 40x6 years + 200, convert 6 yrs. into month that is 72 months, so 40 x 72 + 800 or 2880+ 800 = 3.6 months or 3, m 18 days (.6x30 = 3x6 = 18}. In a more simple way by applying Rule of Three that if 800 = 72 then 40 = ? so 2880 = 800 = 3.6 or 3 m 18 days or 40 x 6 x 12+ 800 = 3.6 month or 3 m 18 days. Now sub-sub longitude of the sun is 40x6 + 120 = 2" min, 3m 18 days will be converted into days i.e. 108 is to be multiplied by2 or 108x2 or 216 + 40 = 5.4 days or break the points (.4) into hours i.e. 4x24=9.6 hrs. Brake the points six (.6) and multiplied: by 80 = 6 x 60 = 36" minutes, so Sun's sub-sub period is § days 9 hrs. 36 mins. Now Sun's sub-sub-sub period, brake the longitude of the Sun sub-stib which is 2' min. 2x 60 = 120" sec or 120 x6 + 120 = 6" sec. Now length of sub-sub period of the sun is 5 days 9 hrs. 36 mins. Brake this 5 days 9 brs. 36 mins. into rhinutes, that is 5x 24 = 120 hrs. Add 9 hrs. or 129 hrs, x 6G plus 36 mnins = 7776' mins. By Rule of Three 2° sub-sub or 120° Hf 120" is 7776 then 2’ or 120° =? 7776 x6 + 120 = 388.8-60 for hrs. = 6.48 hrs. or 6hrs. 28.8 mins or say 6 hrs. 28' min or 29' mins. 1, So the longitude of Sun's const. if 13'- 20° and length of dasa-period is 6 yrs. 2. Longitude of sun sub in sun const, is 40 mins. and length of sub period the ‘Sun const. is 3m 18 days. 3. Longitude of Sun sub-sub in Sun Const. is 2" min and length of sub-sub- period ig 5 days 9 hrs 38 min, Length of Sub sub-sub in sun const. is 6” sec and length of sub-sub-sub periad 6 hrs. 28.8 or 29 mins. Thus we can divide const. of all planets: and can find their length of dasa, sub dasa (bhukti) sub-sub dasa (Anthra) and gub-sub- sub dasa (Sooksama) with the help of Parasar’s 120 concept. Following the above formula of parasar we can find one year dasa from the langitude of a const. 13°-20' min, so 13°-20' = 360 days (one who likes 385 days can apply their rule) but 360 day a year has been accepted in astrology. One-year dasa 360 + 120 = 3 and 3x6 = 18 so 3 is the unit for all planets. 1.For Sun 3x8=18 days in one-y. dasa 2. For Moon 3x10=30 days or im dasa 3. For Mars 3x7=21 days in cne-y., dasa 4. For Rahu 3x18=54 days or 1m 24d. dasa 5. For Jup 3x16=48 days or 1m 18d dasa 6. For Sat 3x19=57 days or tm 27d dasa 7. 8. 9 For Merc 3x17=51 days or im2td dasa . For Ketu 3x7=21 days in one=y. dasa 9. For Ven 3220560 daysor2mOd dasa Total 350 days or 12 months 0 days. To. avoid complexity in calculation we have not considered 365 days-a-year. Astro- logically 360 days a year is accepted. if one is so particular then | shall tell that the 365, days are not a-year. We have to go for another 6 hrs. 9' min and 9.50" sec, so It is better to retain 360 days a-year. Hope, it is clear. Month Dasa Now we can look to month dasa. Astrolagically, a month comprises of 30 days i.e. 30 days-a-month. Unit to measures month dasa is 30 + 120= 0.25 and accordingly month dasa are to be calculated Ca K.P. Year Book - 2004 69by multiplying the unit period, 1. For Sun .26x6=15 For Moon .25x10=2.5 For Mars 25%7=1.75 For Rahu .25x18=4.5 rounding up For Jup .25x16=4 rounding up . For Sat 25x19=4.75, rounding up For Merc 25x17=4.25 rounding up For Ketu 25x17=1.75 rounding up For Ven .25x2035.0 rounding up 5" Total Month = 30 days for sun-moon rounded up as 1 and 2 instead of 2 & 3 but for Rahu we have done 4.5=5 for making a month into 30 days. with length of dase- rounding up 1.0 days rounding up rounding up RRO ON NK 2 ENOEREN Day dasa Now day's Dasa 24 + 120 = 0.2 hrs or 0.2 x 60 = 12' minis the unit. 4. Sun 12x 6 = 72 = 1 hrs. 12 min 2Moon 12'x 10 = 120= 2 brs. 0 min. 3Mars 12. x7 = 84 = Thr 24 min. 4Rahu 12 x 18 = 216 = 3 hrs. 36 min. Sup 12 x 16 = 192= 3 brs, 12 min, 6.Sat 12 x 19 = 228= 3 hrs. 48 min. TMerc 12 x 17 = 204. 3 hrs. 24 min. 8Ketu 12x 7 = 64 = 1 br. 24 min, 9Ven 12 x 20 = 240= 4 hrs, 00 min, Total 24 hrs. 00 mins or one day. Munite of Muhurta Dasa Now hours of minute dasa. An hour is of 80! so Unit will be 60 + 120 = 5 rounded up. 4. Sun 8x6 = 3 min 2. Moon 6x6 = 5 min. 3. Mars 5x7 = 3 min(3.5) 4. Rahu .6x18 = 9 min. $. dup Sxi6 = 8 mi 6. Sat 5x19 = 40min. (9.5) 7. Merc 5x17 = 9 min. (8.5) 8 Ketu 5x7 = 3 min, (3.5) 9 Ven .6x20 = 10min, Total One hr. 60 To cope up with 60 min. We have rounded up Sat and Merc, we reduce Mars and Ketu by 5 (Point) Thus we see, we cannot avoid this grand concept of 120 by Rishi parasar who invented this 120-concept 2500 BC age and formulated the unequal timings. None else can claim that he was the inventor of this Vinshattori (120). We shall try to use these division of dasa’ of years, month, day, hours and minute in the TSP articles to prove the validity of Parasar's 120-concept. Gonclusion:- | do not claim that the procegs discussed aboveis the only procedure so far formulated by sage parasar but | feel that this may be the possible direction to the solution of this 120 concept of Paraser which since long senturies has been lying unsolved.
