Lesson Plan Eight: Winter Camp.

Full day – brief overview


Date:
Subject: Social Studies/PE/Art Grade: 7/8
Topic: Connecting Concepts

Materials:
-camo
-sticks for ‘snow snakes’
-shovels/tools for quinzhees
-cross country skis
-sleds

Safety Considerations:
For the activities, today we will need to consider personal safety of each individual. Students
will need appropriate apparel for being outside all day. As well instructional will be given for
each specific activity. Generally to be aware where others are in their space and to be attentive
to their body’s needs.

Management Strategies
Throughout the duration of the day students will be asked to participate in activities as a large
group and as smaller ones as well. Students will be expected to travel and participate in
activities in the community in a respectful manner as they are representing not only themselves
but also the school and their teachers as well.
Stage 1- Desired Results – you may use student friendly language

What do they need to understand, know, and/or able to do?

 Psychomotor: Students will be asked to safely participate in man tracker, building quinzhees,
sledding/or skating, and cross country sking. To start the day and intermittently between
activities students will need to be aware of their physical state and will need to warm-up their
body’s/limbs for injury prevention.

 Cognitive: Will discuss the strategies to be utilized throughout the day for the various
activities

Stage 2- Assessment

Assessment FOR Learning (formative) Assess the students during the learning to help determine next
steps.
Throughout the lesson today students will be asked to carry out a all activities and be supportive of
their peers who may be struggling with new concepts as well as be inclusive of the entire class.

Assessment OF Learning (summative) Assess the students after learning to evaluate what they have
learned.
At the end of the winter camp students will be asked to hand in the results of their photo scavenger
hunt as well they will be asked to fill out a small reflection slip in which they will identify their most
and least favorite parts of the day as well as suggestions for future consideration in creating winter
camp.

To begin this unit, I will be introducing my expectations of the students for the day

Main Procedures/Strategies:
All skills/concepts have been previously introduced by my coop in physical education and students
and parents have been briefed on the days expectations.
