The work of preparing International Standards is normally carried cut through iSO {echnical committees. Each member body interested in a subject for which a technical committee has been established has the right {0 be represented on that committee. International organizations, governmental and non-governmental, in liaison with ISO, also take part in the work, ISO collaborates closely with the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) on all matters of electratechnical standardization. International Standards are drafted in accordance with the rules given in the ISOVIEC Directives, Part 2 _The main task of technical committees is to prepare International Standards. Draft International Standards opted by the technical committees are circulated to the member bodies for voting. Publication as an siternational Standard requires approval by at least 75 % of the member bodies casting a vole. Attention is drawn to the possibilty that some of the elements of this document may be the subject of patent rights. ISO shall not be held respansibie for identifying any of ali such patent rights, 1804144 was prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 5, Ferrous metal pipes and metalic fitings, Subcommittee SC 5, Threaded or plain end but-weiing fitings, threads, gauging of threads. ‘This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition (ISO 4144:1979), which has been technically revised, Ww 1@ $0 2003 — All rights reserved www standards.com.au Copyright ISO www. isostandards.com.au ISO 4144:2003(E) Introduction ISO 4144 has been used worldwide since its publication in 1979. Precision casting technofogies have begun to be applied to the production of stainless steel castings. Dimensions of stainiess steel fitings are considerably reduced by the introduction of the new casting technologies, which offer economical advantage and high profitability of the industry, Another important issue to be considered in ISO standardization is the requirement of pressuretemperature ratings, Furthermore, six new types of stainless steel fitings, such as 45° elbows, male and female elbows, crosses, atc,, have been added to the ten conventional types of fittings specified in ISO 4144:1979, Licensed o Aas Stools Australia Pty Lid on 18 Aug 2003.1 user perso" user Kcence only.
