Crib Sheet Instructions

Specifications
For unit 2 onward you will create an interactive folder outline for the current unit of study. The folder (which I
will provide) can then hold graded materials and other bits of information for the unit so it is all in one place (for
studying) as we get closer to the AP exam. This is NOT mandatory but in order to do retakes this must be
turned in. Whatever information written on the crib sheet may be used during your retake.
Two options for due dates:
- If you turn in your crib sheet the day of the exam AT THE BEGINNING OF CLASS your crib sheet will
add 30 formative points to your overall grade. It is the equivalent of a late grade “never happening.” You
will also be allowed to do retakes if necessary.
- If you do not turn in the crib sheet before you take your test you will still have to turn in a crib sheet
within THREE (3) days of posted test grades (this will be announced and timeline subject to change) in
order to do test retakes.

The folder:
 Must be UNIQUE. Copying another student’s work is plagiarism, which
will not be tolerated.

 Must include a TAB with unit name, student name and period. Please
leave a space for me to sign my name after checking the folder; this tab
completed correctly will enable you to use your folder on test
retakes You may NOT use another student’s folder for retakes.

 Must be HANDWRITTEN. We retain more content when we write out

content; our minds have the chance to digest it. I know that some of you
may not have the best handwriting—I don’t always either. But remember
that your APES FRQs will be handwritten, so we must work on writing
legibly this year anyway to avoid losing points on these valuable
assessments. Feel free to write directly on the folder or write the outline
on separate paper and then glue it to the folder.

 Does NOT have to be perfect! I expect your work to be legible, of

course, but mistakes are natural, so if you have a cross-out, please don’t
stress. If you’d feel more comfortable using pencil, that’s fine, too.

 Must incorporate AT LEAST THREE (3) COLORS. Color can be used to

highlight information, enhance memory performance, group similar
information and add visual appeal to a project. The color you use in your
interactive folder can include colored pens, crayons/markers,
highlighters, and/or colored paper. Be as creative and colorful as you’d
like.

 Must highlight AT LEAST FIFTEEN (15) MAIN POINTS of the unit (unless otherwise noted on your study
guide- please check your study guide- when in doubt, do 15). Some units are much larger and it will be in
your best interest to highlight more information than just 15. I expect you to put thought into this and show
that you have reviewed the unit and made a choice as to what is most important. Copying my sentences
straight from PPT will NOT be accepted. TEN (10) of those 15 points you choose must then be expanded
to include at least three (3) details under each of them; you are encouraged to include as many details as
you think you would need/want to help you on your retake! This act of deciding what is most important or
what you know you need to learn is good practice for college note-taking. Feel free to use your study guide
or textbook to provide inspiration.
 Choose five (5) vocabulary words you feel are important to understand the unit and define them using your
own words. You may choose to have a labeled diagram as your explanation. These words may also be
include within your detailed descriptions but please underline/make the word and definition easy to find at a
glance
 Must include AT LEAST TWO DRAWN (2) FIGURES
with titles. Use words or pictures to illustrate a process
—such as the biogeochemical cycles when we get to
Terrestrial/Aquatic Ecology—to help you better
understand it. You are welcome to re-draw a figure,
graph, chart, or photo from the unit that you feel is
important. You may always draw more than two
diagrams. (You may use diagrams with your
vocabulary words if needed)

 May be AS CREATIVE AS YOU’D LIKE like or meet

only the BASIC REQUIREMENTS in order to to attend
retakes. For those who want to make the folder as
interactive as possible, google “foldables for science”
and hit IMAGES for ideas, use post-it notes or other
creative methods to show
processes or definitions, consult
Pinterest for clever and creative
ideas... the sky’s the limit!
Again, though, for those who
are not creative, you can still
earn earn your ticket in the door
simply by satisfying the
minimum requirements.
