Rationale
Goal 1: Elevate the overall literacy experience through guidance and motivational reading initiatives
This goal serves to ensure the media center is aligned with the academic goals with classroom. As an instructional partner, media
specialists must ensure they are doing all that is necessary for students to meet their academic goals.
Shanice Solomon SMP6: Planning for the Future FRIT 7331

Goal 2: Update current digital & print resources and technology, working towards a Future Ready library and a 1:1 school with
technology.
This goal serves to move Mercer’s media center further in Future ready status, reaching towards being 1:1 by 2022. With such a small
population, it would seem plausible to work towards this goal. Also, student interests and needs must be kept in mind when choosing
materials. Learners must be engaging within and outside of the classroom, and the media center should be a source for that
engagement.
Goal 3: With assistance of the Instructional Technology Coach, provide regular professional development opportunities and
collaboration with classroom teachers.
This goal is necessary to make sure teachers are armed with the knowledge to increase effective instruction in the classroom. The
media specialist serves as the teacher in this capacity, delivering the information to learners at different levels. Therefore, when
presenting, make sure to differentiate so that those who may need hands on can get the information just as well as someone who only
needs to hear the information to grasp it.
Goal 4: Create an oasis for students, teachers and the community, making the environment more inviting.
We want the media center to be an inviting place that draws in students, teachers and the community. It should be a comfortable
learning center, bustling with resources and designated areas for reading, research and beyond.
