After doing a warm-up, acquiring background knowledge from a mini lecture, reading a
primary source document, discussing with a group, presenting findings to the whole
group, and completing a graphic organizer, students will be able to compare the five major
motives for 19th century Imperialism with 100% accuracy.

Students will be able to identify and compare the five major motives for 19 th century
Imperialism by analyzing a primary source document and completing a graphic organizer.

- Students will get into groups of 3 to 4
- Each group will receive a primary source document that relates to a motive for 19 th
century Imperialism
- Students will analyze the document and discuss the pros and cons for their given
motive
- Students will complete their portion of the graphic organizer

5. Lesson Assessment (w/ differentiation) Time: 15 minutes

- Two students from each group will present their findings to the whole group.
- All students will be held accountable for all information by completing the entire
graphic organizer.
- This will be collected at the end of the class period.

6. Closure Time:

How will you bring the whole class together in the last 5-10 minutes to see if they got it
and provide feedback on their performance before they leave the class?
