Answer ALL Questions

1. Derive the voltage and current equation for infinite open wire transmission line and also determine [10]
the secondary constants of a transmission line.

2. The following characteristics have been measured on a lossy transmission line at 100 MHz. [10]
Zo=50+j0 Ω, =0.01 dB/m, =0.8π rad/m. Determine R,L,G and C of the line.

3. A 100Ω transmission line is terminated with a load impedance of 200 Ω. Determine the reflection [4]
co-efficient and design a suitable matching section to minimize the reflection.

4. A 2m lossless transmission line having a characteristic impedance 50Ω is terminated with an [6]
impedance 40+j30Ω at an operating frequency of 200 MHz. Find the input impedance.

5.(a) The transmission line circuit given below has Vg = 10V rms, Zg = 50, Z0 = 50, ZL = 40-j20, and [10]
l = 0.6. Compute the power delivered to the load using (i) Reflection Coefficient (Г), (ii) Input
impedance (Zin) (iii) load voltage (VL).

power. If the power incident at the load is 100mW, calculate the transmission coefficient, power in
the load.

7. If the generator frequency is 3 GHz and the transmission line is 73 cm long, find the input impedance [7]
at the generator using Smith chart if the load impedance is 40 – j60 . Also calculate the minimum
and maximum impedance existing on the line?

8. A 50  coaxial lossless transmission line filled with a dielectric material of εr = 9 is connected to load [10]
impedance 50 – j100. Design two possible matching circuits with short circuited shunt stub to
provide impedance matching between the line and the load at a signal frequency of 30 MHz.

9. The separation between the plates in a parallel plate waveguide is 2.5 cm. The waveguide is operating [10]
at 8.6 GHz. Calculate the possible TE and TM modes which will propagate through the wave guide.
