Dear Colleagues,

On Tuesday, the 24th of October, MISB will be celebrating the founding day of the United Nations with the
theme “Sustainable Tourism, a tool for development.” In line with this, the Social Studies and History and
the IPS Departments would like to propose a collaborative project among different subjects for your
respective classes. Given the interconnectedness of the nature of our subjects, we would like to suggest
for your students to participate in a video-making competition about the aforementioned theme. This
video could be in the nature of a promotional/advertising material that would attract tourists to visit the
place/places being promoted, while at the same time, endorsing the value of sustainable tourism.

Possible collaboration subject combinations are as follows:

Grades 9 & 10:


(Social Science subjects) History/Business/Economics
AND/OR (IPS subjects) Sejarah/Geografi/Ekonomi/Sosiologi
AND/OR (Languages) English/Bahasa Indonesia
+
ICT

Grades 11 & 12 UN:


Global Perspectives AND/OR Enterprise
AND/OR (IPS subjects) Sejarah/Geografi/Ekonomi/Sosiologi
AND/OR (Languages) English/Bahasa Indonesia

Grades 11 & 12 IB:


(Social Science subjects) History/Business/Economics/ITGS/ESS
AND/OR
(Languages subjects) Language A and Language B (English & Indonesian)
AND/OR
(IPS subjects) Sejarah/Geografi/Ekonomi/Sosiologi

If you find this idea helpful for your respective classes and you are willing to work with other teachers,
you are not just encouraging students to enter the video-making competitions, but you are also willing to
give their work credit in your subjects.

In that case, may we request that you ask your students to sign up as competitors in the
competition, the judging of which will be on Monday, 23 October and the winners will be
announced on Tuesday, 24 October during the UN Cultural presentations of grades 7 and 8 in the
MPH. The 1st place – 3rd place winners will receive trophies, recognition certificates and interesting
prizes. Recognition certificates will also be given to those who participated.
Specifics:

 Each participating group should consist of 4-6 members.


 The group of students may choose to do a promotional advertisement of Indonesia as a tourist
destination, or ANY of the country’s islands/provinces.
 The video should not exceed 3 minutes.
 The video should reflect the theme of the competition. The video should also include a slogan that
communicates the core idea of the theme.
 Copyrighted materials used should be acknowledged at the end of the video. This will not be
counted in the time allowed.
 The video should be in either English or Bahasa Indonesia, and a subtitle be provided.

These are the minimum requirements for a video to be accepted in the competition. Specific
requirements to be graded will have to be discussed by you.

The criteria for judging are as follows:

CREATIVITY & ORIGINALITY


 The video incorporates concepts, style or media that are
different and creative. 30
 It has the ability to influence an audience to understand the
topic of the video
PRODUCTION QUALITY
 The quality of the video, as well as the editing and flow,
indicate that the students had put in considerable effort in 30
producing the film.
 The audio quality is clear.
RELEVANCE TO THE THEME
 The video includes a slogan that communicates the core idea of
the theme.
 The video conveys information with a positive message and is 30
accurate and not misleading.
 The video effectively contributes to increasing the awareness
and value of sustainable tourism
ENTERTAINMENT VALUE
 The video’s story or concepts are interesting and

understandable.
 It can grab the attention of a wider audience.
