The following Statements made by The Dean were written inappropriately-

1. Representatives of out faculty will serve as university hosts for these scholars.

The Statement he made seemed more like an order like he was taking undue advantage of his
position no matter how high your designation is, one always expects some politeness from the
other side.

2. In my position as Dean of this university it gives me deep pleasure to……

The dean by making this statement was blowing his own trumpet.it seemed he was bragging
about himself.

3. Having such experts on board as tenured faculty is something that this university would
greatly benefit from…..

What the Faculty must have filtered out of this statement was that they weren’t competent
enough as he had his own personal suggestion of having them as tenured faculty. Also the
statement Four established and respected experts added fuel to the fire.

The thing was that the Faculties had a perspective of their own in their subconscious mind which
changed the meaning of the message entirely, had the dean been more polite situation could
have been avoided. So I would say there is a mistake from both the side in this communication.

Ans2. The following observations can be made from the message which led to the communication
disaster-

1. The tone used in the message is very disdainful, Moreover there is too much emphasis on
you which aggravates the situation making the head seems harsh.
2. The breaks of the employees are being limited without mentioning the reason.
3. They are being bombarded with orders, which is skimming the communication, the
message is not getting the points across properly.
4. There is no sense of trust in the message,it is only eroding the image of the head
5. There is only one way communication.
6. The word will not is used a lot of times another synonym such as you are requested to
avoid or not to could have been used.
