ART & CRAFT FOR YOUNG CHILDREN


(SUBJECT CODE: ECE2004)
Instructions to Students:
1. Assignment questions consists of 2 Parts:
 Part A Individual Presentation - 15%
 Part B Individual Report - 15%
Total - 30%

2. Part B, Report must be handed in as ONE (1) booklet, attached with “Assignment
Submission Form” as the front cover, enclosed with the “Marking Criteria”. Report must
be typed and double spaced using Times New Roman font type (Size 12). Submitted
booklet must be stapled. Please type your name/subject code/subject/semester 1’16 on the
header and page number at the footer.

3. Students need to UPLOAD their assignments to BLACKBOARD (a plagiarism website)


to check spelling, grammar and citation. Upon uploading, a REPORT will be generated
and the students must print and submit this report together with their assignment.
Submission of assignment without this report will be REJECTED.

4. All Students are to submit their Part B assignment booklet ON or BEFORE 5.00pm,
30th July 2017 (Sunday).

Please submit your assignments directly to the lecturer. NO EXTENSION WILL BE


GRANTED. A penalty of 5 marks per day will be deducted from the total marks of the
assignments for each day of late submission.

Part A, group presentations – Students will present their work ON 30th July 2017
(Sunday). Presentation will begin on time, lateness will result in mark deduction.
Attendance on both dates are compulsory.

5. Group discussions are encouraged but answers must not give the Examiners reasons to
believe that copying of each other’s works has occurred. Copying is a serious offence and
could result in a FAIL grade. Originality will be one of the key factors in the award of
points and grades.

Part A: Presentation [15 Marks]

You have to plan TWO (2) Art & Craft experiences base on a theme. You need to use the lesson plan
template to write down your plans.

Suggested themes:
1. Music is FUN!
2. Creepy Crawlers
3. King of the Jungle
4. Cooking crafts
5. All about colors
6. Flowers Bloom
7. All about Books
8. Under the Sea
9. Walking in the Jungle

The planned experience must be developmentally appropriate, holistic, culturally-sensitive, and


aesthetically pleasing to children. The experience must provide children with opportunities to explore and
play at the same time.

BE CREATIVE! You need to DIY.

Each individual will be given 15 - 20 minutes to present their ART & CRAFT works.

Your presentation must include:


 Process of making (you need to be in the pictures / videos to demonstrate the process of making)
 The end products of your art & craft works.
 What will children learn from your art & craft? How can you connect you art & craft to other
subject areas?
 List specific suggestions for making the activity more creative.

Part B: Individual Report [15 Marks]


Length: 1,000 – 1500 words

Write about the art center you would like to have in your classroom.

In this report, you must include:


1. A list of materials which you would stock in your art center.
2. Criteria or guidelines for an early childhood art center.
3. Five major rules for successfully operating an early childhood art center.
4. Roles of the teacher in the art center.

Part B, Report must be handed in as ONE (1) booklet, attached with “Assignment Submission Form” as
