behavior support;
easy to use;
WHEN TO USE
-student was paying attention and participating,
Adolescents with emotional behavior disorder display lower levels of social adjustment and higher levels
of problem behaviors than other students (Peterson, et al 2008). The study encouraged the use of praise
with students. Students responded favorably to praise and fewer misbehaviors were noted.
Reasons to use a Praise Note; Increases favorable behavior in classroom. Discourages negative
interactions amongst peers. Can be used to encourage English Language learners when they begin to
show success in writing/speaking. It is easy to use and only takes a minute of less of your time.
Suggested Strategies;
-allow the students to observe “good” behavior- such as remaining in seat or raising hand to speak.
-have them model “good” behavior- practice raising hand to answer a question.
-rehearse what constitutes good behavior in a variety of settings and conditions-include lunch/recess.
-teacher writes a note to the student commending a specific behavior or positive use of social skill(s)--
-share praise with them as soon as possible.
