INTEREST COVER LETTER

I am excited to continue my journey as an educator at a new school. My teaching career began at Holy Family as the 6th and 7th grade
homeroom teacher. I taught Middle School (6th, 7th, and 8th Grade) Science and 6th Grade Social Studies my first year during the 2016-
2017 school year and Middle School Math and Science my second year of teaching during the 2017-2018 school year. I would have
loved to continue teaching at this low income school with a diverse community but unfortunately the doors are closing to this beloved
school and community.

I believe every child deserves education in their lives that occurs in school, extends past classroom hours, and is transmitted into their
community. I have serviced all these areas as an educator since the young age of 13 when I was a Lead Tae Kwon Do instructor for Rice
Canyon Elementary School's After School Program. I worked within the Youth Development Department for the YMCA of San Diego
County for four years when attending Cal State University San Marcos to extend education past classroom hours. Here I was Assistant
Supervisor at Glen View Elementary for the After School Education Safety (ASES) Program before being promoted to Character Builders
Program Supervisor at Escuela Longfellow Spanish Immersion School. I am now teaching Science for Sea World's educational programs
as a teacher's summer job transmitting educational opportunities within the San Diego community to protect the world of the sea through
conservation efforts while teaching marine biology to school-age participants.

I have extended my Bachelors in Liberal Studies by obtaining a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and a Science Single Subject
Teaching Credential in a Masters in Education Program at University of San Diego's School of Leadership and Educational Sciences
Learning and Teaching Program where I learned best practices and effective pedagogy to enhance student engagement and
understanding. During this experience I have been granted the opportunity to preform research on student centered learning and design
thinking pedagogy at Design 39 Campus while student teaching at Jefferson Elementary IB STEAM Magnet School and conducting
Action Research at Holy Family using inquiry to create a project based learning environment to best teach integrated Science with the
Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) that increased conceptual understanding by 52% and student interest in science. These
opportunities provided me with experiences to grow as an educator working with the Professional Learning Committees, special needs
students, English Language Learners, and diverse communities.

Teaching for me is developing the future. As educators, we are training students for jobs that have not yet been created, teaching them
skills they can use in everyday life to assist their content learning, and developing their social, emotional, and spiritual well-being. I have a
separate passion for teaching both elementary education and Jr. High. At the elementary level I am able to teach students foundational
skills to set students up for academic success while developing their character and competence. Jr. High allows me the opportunity to
prepare students for their future with skills to become successful in life. This is also a crucial time to be a positive role model and
advocate for their social-emotional development. To ask if I prefer teaching at the elementary level or middle school level is like asking
me to compare apples to oranges. I enjoy both differently. In both elementary and middle school education, I provide a supportive,
stimulating, and encouraging classroom environment that fosters every students' individual needs through the use of Universal Design
Learning (UDL). I provide multiple modalities activities that support a growth mind-set and includes the use of modern technology. I not
only find passion and joy teaching my students but also myself and other professionals. Collaborating with my Professional Learning
Committee is both rewarding and wholesome. When working with other educators and participating in professional development
opportunities, I am able to expand my knowledge and teaching practices to provide new experiences in the classroom for my students.
Teaching and mentoring new and other educators is also a passion of mine. I have mentored a teacher candidate from USD's Masters
and Credential Learning and Teaching Program as well as provided professional development trainings on Student Owned Learning
Experiences (SOLE) and Curriculum Design utilizing the Backwards Design Framework and the 5E Learning Sequence. Teaching and
learning coincide, as I teach my students so that they can learn and as my students learn, they teach me.
