Classroom Floor Plan

The way I chose furniture for my classroom was based on flexibility and variety.
Seating was the one thing I made sure I had a variety of to provide students with more
seating options (different chairs, beanbags, benches, carpet, and cushions) (Boushey,
2014, p.62). Different types of tables are also placed around the room for different
instructional purposes (Boushey, 2014, p.63).
The writing station is next to the computer station for quiet purposes, which will
be considered the quiet part of the room like recommended in the ECE (Early Childhood
Education) textbook (Brewer, 2014, p. 80). The writing station can also be used as the art
station, which is next to the sink making it easier for students to clean up after. Cubbies
and shelves are located by the door, which is easier for kids to get settled down as soon as
they come through the door and turn in what they need to turn in to the cabinets.
The teacher’s desk is also close to the door facing an angle giving the teacher a
better view of the whole classroom. The teacher’s desk is a half circle, which can double
up as a great conference area for teacher to meet with small groups of students, thus
putting that space to better use, which is a problem that is addressed in ECE textbook
(Brewer, 2014, p.81). Behind the half circle desk there is also plenty of storage area for
the teacher to use.
On the far back of the classroom is where the gathering carpet is at next to the
classroom sink and bathroom. In that same area there is a water table and sand table that
would be the science discovery area (Brewer, 2014, p.80). Lastly the library/reading/
listening station is located near the student’s cubbies giving them easier access to
checking out book and putting them away to take home. This leaves the middle part of
the class for students group seating which can easily be moved around and seats can be
used for other stations based on students preference (Boushey, 2014, p.88). My favorite
part is the fact that seating can be move around and used for different stations leaving
more room for students to move around. Overall each station includes storage station,
which is very useful for manipulatives (Brewer, 2014, p.92).
