INTRODUCTION
Tarapoto is the largest city in the Department of San Martin (capital Moyobamba) in
Peru at approximately 350 meters above sea level and has a hot tropical climate.

Tarapoto offers the tourist and businessman a variety of comfortable hotels and
hostels as well as recreation and activity centres in Tarapoto and the surrounding
area, including the well-equipped Puerto Palmeras resort and adventure holiday
center just outside the city. The best months for a first visit to Tarapoto are probably
between June and October when there is little rain.

There are attractive areas of countryside close at hand where you can see the flora
and fauna of the area and waterfalls. There are opportunities for adventure
expeditions including white water rafting and canoeing trips.

There is also of course a wide variety of local food and dishes, locally-produced
alcoholic drinks such as uvachado (made with grapes and aguardiente) the
medicinal siete raices (made with medicinal tree roots and barks) and chuchuhuasi.

HISTORY OF TARAPOTO
Tarapoto also called "City of the Palms" by those plants that grow in the area; it’s a

GENERAL INFORMATION
Location:
Santa Cruz de los Motilones de Tarapoto, better known simply as Tarapoto is a city
of the northern jungle of Peru, located at an altitude of 250 msnm on the banks of
the river Shilcayo, May tributary.
Population:

populated city of the department of San Martín.

1. THE TOWN OF LAMAS

mouth) with brandy (canazo). Add the syrup, cinnamon and honey. Leave to
marinate it for a month. To serve, if necessary, add sugar.

 Cerezachado: Is a maceration of cherries with aguardiente.


Ingredients:
 1 kg. of cherries.
 2 bottles of firewater.
 1/2 kg. sugar.
 1/4 bottle of honey.
 Cinnamon.
