General Procedures

A. Beginning of period-At the beginning of the period, students will enter the room and sit in

the appropriate seat that corresponds with the seating chart. Students will be expected to take

out and have ready the required materials for class (usually a notebook and something to write

with), and whatever assignments are due during that period.

1. Attendance check -I will take attendance based on my seating chart. Any student who

is not sitting in their assigned seat by the required time will be marked absent or tardy

regardless if they are there or not.

2. Students absent the previous day-Students who have been absent will go to the

absent folder for the day of the week they were absent and grab the materials inside. If

they have questions, they can always ask me after class, during lunch, or email me.

3. Tardy students-Students who are tardy will be marked tardy in accordance with

the school’s attendance/tardy policy, and are expected to cause no distractions, and join

the class in whatever we are doing.

4. Expected student behavior- Students will be expected to consistently maintain

a respectful attitude towards myself, themselves and others. Irrelevant socializing must

stop when the bell rings, and attention should be focused on the task at hand. There will

be plenty of time to talk during class discussions.

B. Materials and equipment-Students will be expected to have at least 1 spiral notebook, a pen

or pencil, a textbook, and any supplemental reading materials provided by me.

1. What to bring to class-Students will be expected to be prepared for class every day

with a notebook and something to write with.

 2. Pencil sharpener-Common sense and common courtesy is to be used in regards to

the pencil sharpener. Simple courteous gestures like not using the sharpener during

instruction are expected of every student.

3. Other Equipment- Students will be aware of which materials and equipment they

are permitted and expected to use. Prohibited items that require permission (if any) will

be clearly identified to the students.

4. Student contact with teacher’s desk, storage, other materials-Students are

prohibited from contact with my desk. Access to storage and other materials will require

permission from me.

C. Ending the Period-Students will have a minute or so to gather their belongings and

prepare to go to their next class. Students will be quiet and respectful during this process.

Teacher-Led Instruction and Seat Work Procedures

A. Student Attention-Students will be attentive to myself, and whoever else is speaking in

front of the class. Out of respect for everyone involved, talking and side conversations will not

be permitted during teacher-led instruction.

B. Student Participation-Students will be expected to actively participate in lectures and

class discussions (orally or otherwise), as that is critical component in my

classroom. Differentiation accommodations can be made for special cases.

C. Seat-work Procedures-Students will quietly work on their assignments, stay on task, and

be respectful of those around them.

 1. Talk among students-Students are encouraged to talk to each other in my class

when the time is appropriate. When permitted, students may work collectively on

assignments.

2. Obtaining help -I will circulate the room periodically. If I am not up, students

are encouraged to approach me for assistance.

3. Out of seat-Students are permitted to leave their seat for obvious reasons (ask for

help, sharpen pencil, etc), otherwise, students should remain in their seats.

4. When seat work has been completed-When seat work has been completed

students are free to work on any other assignments of their choice. If they don’t want to

work on assignments, they are free to talk quietly amongst themselves.

Student Group Work

A. Use of Materials and Supplies- Students will come prepared to class with their

contributing materials and supplies.

B. Assignment of Student Groups- They way groups are selected depend solely on the

purpose for the groups. Group selections can come from assignments by me, or student choice.

Students will work in multiple groups and be subjected to both methods throughout the year.

C. Student Participation and Behavior-Students are expected to participate in group work, as

it is a major component of my class. Students will complete an equal amount of work and be

in contact with their group mates.

Miscellaneous
A. Behavior during interruptions-When another teacher or administrator comes into

classroom or if announcements come on, students will remain quiet until the interruption is

over.

B. Special equipment-Students will respect special equipment and it’s availability.

C. Fire and Disaster Drills

-Students will treat fire and disaster drills with immense seriousness. Procedures addressing

how to handle these situations will be provided to the students during the first week of class.
