This report contains results from the April 2018 Milk Production Survey collected nationally during the first two
weeks of April. Data provided by Oklahoma and Texas producers are the foundation of the estimates made for
the Southern Plains region. We would like to thank all producers who responded to the survey. Results from the
next quarterly survey will be made available on July 20, 2018

Milk production in Oklahoma during the January-March quarter totaled 188 million pounds, up 6 percent from
the October-December quarter, but unchanged from last year's quarter. The average number of milk cows in
Oklahoma during the quarter totaled 39,000 head, up 1,000 head from the same quarter in 2017.

Milk production in Texas during the January-March quarter totaled 3,147 million pounds, up 6 percent from the
October-December quarter, and up 5 percent from last year's quarter. The average number of milk cows in
Texas during the quarter totaled 516,000 head, up 16,000 head from the same quarter in 2017.

Milk production in the United States during the January-March quarter totaled 54.4 billion pounds, up 1.5 percent
from the same quarter last year. The average number of milk cows in the United States during the quarter was
9.41 million head, up 9,000 head from the October-December quarter, and up 38,000 head from the same period
last year.
