Unit Title: Does it add up? Name: Joseph Zoltan

Content Area: Algebra I Grade Level: 9, 10
CA Content Standard(s)/Common Core Standard(s):
Arithmetic with Polynomials and Rational Expressions A-APR

Perform arithmetic operations on polynomials. [Linear and quadratic]

1. Understand that polynomials form a system analogous to the integers, namely, they are closed under the operations of addition, subtraction, and
multiplication; add, subtract, and multiply polynomials.

Big Ideas/Unit Goals:

Where do you see yourself in 5 - 10 years?

Understand what a polynomial is: monomial, binomial, trinomial

Understand how to add subtract and multiply them
Understand the differences between natural numbers, integers, rational numbers, and real numbers
Understand what closer under addition, multiplication and subtraction are
Understand that like integers, polynomials are closed under addition, subtraction and multiplication
Understand, at a very basic level, how to use LaTex.

Unit Summary:

I will lecture on certain topics and develop a level foundation in all students about different types of numbers and their closures. This will include lectures as
well as class discussions. Then I’ll move to polynomials and everything polynomial. Students will complete worksheets to show they understand the concepts.
Eventually I will begin to lecture on LaTex and possibly use powerpoint for detailed explanations as well as visuals of what is to be expected when using these
programs. Possibly some easier introduction assignments during the unit to get the students’ feet wet so that they’ll know how to use the codes when it comes
time for their final assignment.
Assessment Plan:
Entry-Level: Formative: Summative:
 Survey  Game  LaTeX Project
 Graphic Organizer  Test
 Quiz
 Critical Thinking Discussion
