On February 5th, 2010, the weekly Sun revealed the existence of "strong
evidence" of the involvement of Portuguese Prime Minister José Sócrates in
the investigation led by a TVI team regarding Portugal Telecom. It was said
that José Sócrates in order to control TVI information, wanted to displace
Manuela Moura Guedes and José Eduardo Moniz. Extracts from the
transcripts contained proof of the involvment Armando Vara, then
administrator of the BCP, Paulo Penedos, advisor of PT, and Rui Pedro
Soares, Portugal Telecom executive CEO.
On February 6th, Correio da Manhã post revealed that Prime Minister José
Sócrates and BCP consultant Armando Vara had plans to "conditionate and
constrain" the actions of the President Cavaco Silva, to control the media
and use funds from public enterprises for the benefit of the PS. The ultimate
goal of socialist leaders would be, foreseeing a probability of loosing the
absolute majority, lead to early elections in 2011. This was detected by the
magistrates of the case "Face Oculta", the newspaper said. The wiretaps
also revealed insulting references to the President and the leader of the
PSD. Also the newspaper i indicates that Cavaco Silva prepares to gather
information about the case. The President may call the Attorney General's
Office and President of the Supreme Court to Belém Palace.
Many are the opinions about this issue and the intervenient are so many
that only by reading all the articles we can understand more closely this
dark history.
Our Prime Minister denies all the accusations but it appears that the Inquire
Commission revealed that he always knew the TVI acquirement by Portugal
Telecom and also that he was the mentor of this operation.
