First poem- In the first stanza the writer compared white with good things and bad things with black. The
mother sitting underneath a tree telling her son about God, how God helps us in my ways in our life etc.
In the fourth stanza the mother telling her son that God put us in difficult situations and by going through
all these difficulties we turned into a pure man. The writer letter told an English boy the same thing and
assured him that he will help him and both will be in heaven together.

“And these black bodies and this sunburnt face

Is but a cloud, and like a shady grove.” – metaphor and simile are used in these two lines. Writer used
rhyme in almost every stanza as an example we can use second stanza (abab) and third stanza(cdcd).

Second poem- The poem is all asking a question about a person whose situation is described in first
stanza. If I have to answer the question I will say the man is brave because no matter how unjoyful
situation he is in, he has the courage to handle the situation lonely. He does not want to tell people about
the situation.

Third poem- The poem is all about a brother’s love to his sister. He lost his sister but he sees his sister
through swan.

Fourth poem- A person who is really disappointed with his life, he does not see any hope around him. The
writer compares the black color with disappointment and uses different things to describe our
surroundings.

Fifth poem- In first and second stanza the writer wrote about herself and her lover. Both the people did
not love anything of one another but they fell in love. After the marriage things did not go well, the
children leave in disgust. Other than that, there was no one to eat food.
