Imanol: WW1, All Quiet on the Western Front By Erich Remarque,

Drea: When death is hunting us down now, for the first time in three days we can see his face,
now for the first time in three days we can oppose him: we feel a mad anger.

Josue: No longer do we lie helpless, waiting on the scaffold, we can destroy and kill, to save
ourselves, to save ourselves and to be avenged

Ricky:This quote relates to our theme because of all the communication that went through in
order to complete the little but many steps to win the war. Pre alliances consisted of treaties
since 1889 .

Lupita:Alliances require communication. alliances were formed before the war, such as
Germany, Austria, and Italy that were brought together under a treaty signed in 1889.

Hari: Britain, France and Russia allied under the triple entente.

Imanol: Germany declared war with France,

Drea: France allied with Russia and Serbia

Josue: there was now a common enemy

Imanol: Austria-Hungary’s wanted to retaliate against Serbia, for the assassination of Archduke
Ferdinand his wife, Kaiser Wilhelm pledged Germany's support, even if it meant war with
Russia.

Hari:Unity. A critical part of keep alliances strong. They need to defend themselves against
death. They need to work together fight and kill the enemy before death hunts them down.

Lupita: They won't sit their and be killed. They want to fight back. Germany cut through belgium
to get to france and take them out of the war early. Great britain told France we need to take
Germany out before they take the both of us out.

Ricky: Pre war, France and Russia were already allied and they were starting to allie with other
countries also ,they sign treaties, Russia signed a reassurance treaty with the Bismarck's
alliance .

Drea: We don't talk much, but I believe we have a more complete communion with one another
than even lovers have. We are two men, two minute sparks of life;
Josue: outside is the night and the circle of death. We sit on the edge of it crouching in danger,
the grease drips from our hands, in our hearts we are close to one another…What does he
know of me or I of him?

Imanol: formerly we should not have a single thought in common-now we sit with a goose
between us and feel in unison, are so intimate we do not even speak

Paul-Paul I call again in answer. It is Kat and Albert who have come out with a stretcher
to look for me. “Are you wounded?” No-No We drop into the trench. I ask for something
to eat and wolf it down. Muller gives me a cigarette.

Imanol: INTER War To Germany

BY CHARLES HAMILTON SORLEY

Drea You are blind like us. Your hurt no man designed,
And no man claimed the conquest of your land.

Josue But gropers both through fields of thought confined

We stumble and we do not understand.

Imonal You only saw your future bigly planned

And we, the tapering paths of our own mind,

Lupiita And in each other's dearest ways we stand,

And hiss and hate. And the blind fight the blind.

Ricky When it is peace, then we may view again

With new-won eyes each other's truer form

Hari And wonder. Grown more loving-kind and warm

We'll grasp firm hands and laugh at the old pain,

Drea When it is peace. But until peace, the storm

The darkness and the thunder and the rain.

Josue The League of Nations!!!! Germany and the Soviet Union joined. and Vigorously
condemned Japan’s invasion of Manchuria.

Imonal Rearmed their military to pursued aggressive foreign policies. Weren’t very successful,
condemned the japan invasion but to no effect. And were too weak to stop aggressors.
Lupita The League imposed an arms embargo on Italy and Abyssinia. The League could not
stop Germany’s aggressions so they were left with an appeasement.

Drea Such, Such is Death

BY CHARLES HAMILTON SORLEY
Such, such is Death: no triumph: no defeat:
Only an empty pail, a slate rubbed clean,

Imanol A merciful putting away of what has been.

And this we know: Death is not Life, effete,

Josue Life crushed, the broken pail. We who have seen

So marvellous things know well the end not yet.

Ricky Victor and vanquished are a-one in death:

Coward and brave: friend, foe. Ghosts do not say,

Hari “Come, what was your record when you drew breath?”
But a big blot has hid each yesterday

Lupita So poor, so manifestly incomplete.

And your bright Promise, withered long and sped,

Imanol Is touched, stirs, rises, opens and grows sweet

And blossoms and is you, when you are dead.

Josue Rome-Berlin-Tokyo Axis!!!! Germany, Italy, Japan formed this axis to fight the soviet
communism. They all also agreed to not interfere with each other's expansion plans.

Drea The agreement cleared the way for these anti-democratic’s, and aggressor powers to
take even bolder steps.

Lupita The Owl

By Edward Thomas
Downhill I came, hungry, and yet not starved
Cold, yet had heat within me that was proof

Ricky Against the North wind; tired, yet so that rest

Had seemed the sweetest thing under a roof.
Hari Then at the inn I had food, fire, and rest,
Knowing how hungry, cold, and tired was I.

Drea All of the night was quite barred out except

An owl’s cry, a most melancholy cry

IMANOL; Shaken out long and clear upon the hill,

No merry note, nor cause of merriment,

JOSUE: But one telling me plain what I escaped

And others could not, that night, as in I went.

RICKY: WW2

Lupita When the Battle Cry is spoken,

And the Voice of War is heard,
The soldiers of the Allies,
To battlefields do move.
The enemy is silent,
As if waiting for the sun,
Then they hear that awesome sound,
The booming of the Guns.

RICKY:The Glory of the Guns by Gunner MR Duncan

HARI: They shudder in their trenches

Within a gnawing fear,
Of knowing the Battery
Of 1-6-1 is here.
The shells come whistling all around,
And wreck and break and knock things down,
Creating havoc among the lines
And all that it surrounds.

IMANOL;The enemy has broken

In torn and tired dismay,
Those so inclined
Get down on knees and pray.
The Allies are victorious,
The enemy is on the run,
Once again they have been beaten
By the Glory of the Guns.

DREA: The Nazi-Soviet Pact, Created in 1939 and broken in 1941 by the
Germans.Joseph Stalin viewed the pact as a way to keep peace with Germany while
giving time to the Soviets build up their military. Adolf Hitler used the pact to make sure
Germany would invade Poland unopposed. And gain access to other parts of eastern
europe.

JOSUE:“We stand for peace and for the strengthening of businesslike relations with all
countries.... We stand for close and neighborly relations with all neighboring countries....
We stand for the rendering of support to nations which have fallen prey to aggression
and are fighting for the independence of their countries” -Stalin, Nonaggression Pact

IMANOL: Two years into the war Germany stopped trying to invade Britain because
their attacks via air (airplanes) and atlantic (sea, naval) convinced Hitler that they
weren’t going to soften Britain up for a land invasion. So he turned his attention east on
the Soviet Union.

LUPITA: Nazi Victim by Pastor Martin Niemoller

RICKY:They came for the communists,

and I did not speak up
because I wasn't a communist;

They came for the socialists,

and I did not speak up
because I was not a socialist;

They came for the union leaders,

and I did not speak up --
because I wasn't a union leader;

HARI:They came for the Jews,

and I didn't speak up
because I wasn't a Jew.
Then they came for me,
and there was no one
left to speak up for me ....

DREA:Britain Forced to fight the Germans all alone. Hitler launched blitzkrieg against
Norway, Denmark. Afterwards, he went to do the same to Belgium and the netherlands.
Which left Britain alone. With no one on its side to help.

JOSUE: Meanwhile the Germans forces invaded France and were headed south toward
Paris. While germany was invading, Italy had declared war on france and attacked from
the south.

IMANOL:Roll Call Thoughts by an Anonymous writer

LUPITA:We've stood in the rain, the snow and the sleet,

We've stood there for hours with nothing to eat
And why have we stood there, so "Browned off" and mad?
Because Uterofficer Noyes just couldn't add.

RICKY:We've dug nice long tunnels through miles of sand.

Made fancy clothes and hid in tin cans.
But why have we failed to leave "Kriegie" Land?
Because Henry the "Butcher Boy" is always on hand.

HARI:We don't like this camp, so windy, so bleak,

And the barking of watch-dogs that bother your sleep.
Oh, Major Von Muller please give us a break;
Just call of your Blood-hounds and let us escape!
