GOALS OF THE UNIT: the goals of the unit are for the students to:
 Understand the electoral process
 Become aware of exercising ones’ franchise
 Develop a sense of national pride in their country
 Understand the structure of governance in Trinidad and Tobago

RATIONALE:
Governance ultimately affects the lives of a country’s citizenry. Exercising one’s franchise is a key component of our democracy. Therefore, it is
important that students’ area able to link their daily operations to the wider context of society. Understanding the role, function and history of
governance as well as the importance of voting would help the student to develop an appreciation for the actions carried out by a governing body
and acquire a deeper sense of patriotism.
