LabX – METTLER TOLEDO lab instrument control software

Control your measurements

from anywhere in the lab or office

Have you ever experienced laboratory software that was really easy to use? With a user interface that already
looked familiar when you first started it? LabX uses a powerful, lean interface with the same user philosophy you
already know from widely used office software packages. This means you can exploit the full potential of the
software right from the start.
Imagine controlling all your titrators and balances via a network; maintaining your data securely but easily
accessible on a central server; looking at the analysis results directly in your office or using exactly the same
method for all your titrators via the network... With LabX pro this all becomes a reality.

Check all the data from the office

With LabX, you don’t have to go to the lab to check
results. Just start LabX on your office PC and check re-

LabX
Embedding quality in your weighing processes
In almost every lab, a balance is the first precision instrument used in the analysis chain. LabX balance Instrument
Management simply gives your balances the weight they deserve in your quality assurance system. Thanks to this, you
can easily check your instruments and ensure that no incorrect data is generated. And because METTLER TOLEDO manu-
factures instruments, LabX offers you an unsurpassed tool to monitor instrument performance, tailor-made for METTLER
TOLEDO balances, more comprehensive than any third-party software package.

Define your maintenance schedule and rely on LabX balance

LabX scheduler allows you to centrally define your maintenance
schedule. In addition, you can set tolerance levels appropriate to your
industry. For your convenience, METTLER TOLEDO balance tolerances
are made available from a unique built-in tolerance database. Once
these are set, LabX balance remotely controls adjustments and/or
sends reminders. All data created is stored and can be viewed. If a
balance was incorrectly adjusted, you know exactly when this hap-
pened and which samples have to be retested.

Use your titrators more efficiently

Although METTLER TOLEDO titrators are well known for their simple and
straightforward user interface, LabX titration will give you an even better overview of
everything. Furthermore, it provides additional possibilities for instrument control,
method administration and the analysis of your results. Overall, LabX titration will
help you to perform your titration tasks better and easier than ever.

Prepare and execute your daily titration routines quickly

You can define your sample series in advance. Just choose a titration method and the number of samples,
and then enter your sample data. Titration begins as soon as you drag the Series icon to the desired titrator.
You can of course use the series as a template for titrations you have to perform frequently. To avoid mis-
takes and save time, you can even import the data of the batches directly from a LIMS.

Reevaluate your results with graphical tools

You can reevaluate all your results with 5 differ-
ent graphical methods: Tubbs, tangents, seg-
mented, extrapolation or manual.
The advantage of graphical reevaluation is that
you can later still find missing equivalence points
without having to reanalyze the sample – you see
the result marked directly on the titration curve.

Generate detailed printed or PDF reports

LabX titration allows you to print everything from methods to entire
analysis reports. Just right-click the item you want to print and choose
the Print command in the pop-up menu. Alternatively, you can also
generate a PDF with two simple mouse click. The reports are not
only extremely well formatted, they also automatically include all
the information required by GLP. The report layout editor lets you
adapt the reports to your needs, e.g. by adding a company logo.
LabX – METTLER TOLEDO lab instrument control software

LabX supports all your regulatory needs

LabX pro balance and LabX pro titration provide you with all the tools needed for data management
and storage according to FDA regulations (21 CFR Part 11). Every user has to log on to the system with
his login and password. The user manager allows user rights to be defined for four different user groups.
Critical manipulations have to be confirmed with the user’s digital signature. Every action is recorded in
the audit trail. Every document you create in LabX can go through electronic review and approval
procedures. If your company does not require this level of security, most of the security features can be
selectively switched off. In addition, METTLER TOLEDO also offers comprehensive documentation and
support to assist you in validating your LabX pro system.

Give each user the possibilities he needs Be confident that your data is secure
The user manager allows you to create users and assign them All the data created and imported into LabX pro is stored in
to different user groups. For each group, you can define de- an SQL database. It is therefore not possible to delete data

This makes work in the network easier and more secure. server. This facilitates data backup and ensures that all the
instruments always use the same settings and methods.

Get traceability and flexibility in a multi-user environment

Even if several users are using the same PC, everyone still
has a personal LabX pro session: Simply open LabX several
times, once for each user. This is especially useful if you work
in shifts or an administrator wants to make a quick change
on a system where an analysis is running.

Define your own security policies

LabX pro allows you to define password
policies according to your company’s
guidelines or to regulatory requirements.
The policies dialog allows you to set

length, password complexity and more.
Review and approve documents directly within LabX
Each LabX document has a footer with approval and review infor-
mation on the screen as well as on each printout. Documents can
easily be signed with your electronic signature. The user manager
allows you to define who has the right to review or to approve
documents.

Get a quick overview of what happened with the audit trail function
The audit trail records every relevant action taken in the LabX system -
for example a logon, a change of method, or the import of a series.
The audit trail can be viewed on the screen, filtered according to vari-
ous criteria, printed and exported as a text, or as a PDF file.
The audit trail not only logs who did what, it also informs you about
old and new values.

Restore earlier method versions (titration only)

To recover earlier versions of titration methods, you
can use the method history function. This gives you
access to all the versions of a method you have
previously created or edited with LabX pro titration. Of
course, all the changes made to a method are also
recorded in the audit trail.

Get comprehensive validation support

In regulated environments, software systems have to be validated. METTLER TOLEDO offers you all
the support you need: You can use our comprehensive, two-volume validation documentation and do
it yourself or you can ask our validation specialists to do it for you.

Validation Manuals I and II

METTLER TOLEDO has created two specialized validation
manuals for LabX: Manual I contains all the necessary
information you need for vendor qualification according to
GAMP. Volume II is designed to make the whole IQ/OQ/PQ
process as standardized and rapid as possible. It contains
all the necessary forms and guides you through the testing
process. And since it’s all contained in a binder, you can
add revalidations, etc. at any time. If you want to update to a
later version of LabX, METTLER TOLEDO will provide written
revalidation guidelines as well as the necessary addendums
to the validation manuals.
LabX – METTLER TOLEDO lab instrument control software

LabX is ready to be integrated

into your existing systems
LabX is well prepared to exchange data with most data management
systems such as Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS),
Laboratory Data Management Systems (LDMS), Statistical Quality Con-
trol Systems (SQC), and Enterprise Resource Planning Systems (ERP).
LabX can also exchange data with other instrument control packages
such as chromatography data systems (CDS). Of course, data can also
simply be exported or copied into spreadsheets like Microsoft Excel.

Manual and automatic export with LabX pro

LabX pro offers many possibilities for the import and export of data.
You can specify which parts of the reports you want to export. During
export, LabX pro generates an Excel-compatible ASCII file. Export can be
automated by sending the export file automatically to a local or network
directory.

Fully customized import/export with LabX connect

LabX connect, which is available as an option, allows a high degree of
customization of the automatic export functionality. Furthermore it also
offers automatic import of series and method data. For more information
on LabX connect, please ask for the LabX connect datasheet.

LabX technical information

SQL server compatibility
LabX is delivered standard with the Microsoft MSDE (Microsoft Database Engine). However, LabX can also be
used with a full installation of Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 or Microsoft SQL Server 2000. The installation program
detects an existing version of the SQL server and automatically integrates LabX into it.

Networking
LabX pro is composed of 6 installation components that can be independently installed on different computers.
The components are:
• Client component (multiple possible)
• DeviceServer component (multiple possible)
• Broker component (only one per networked system)
10
• Database component (only one per networked system)
• DBMaintenance (to be installed on the same system as the database)
• Audit Trail (multiple possible)

The Client component includes the files that make up the user interface. It is typically installed on every PC on which you
want to use LabX pro.
The DeviceServer component includes the files that are responsible for communication with the instrument. It can be in-
stalled more than once in a system, typically on all systems that have instruments attached.
The Broker component includes the files that make up the business logic. This component must not be installed more than
once on a system. Typically it is installed on the server.
The Database component includes the database files. This component is installed on the network server.
DBMaintenance serves as a backup and database maintenance tool. It offers automatic and manual backup, restore and
other database related tasks.
The Audit Trail is an independent application for viewing, searching and exporting the audit trail. It can be started from
within LabX or independently.
