Purpose
Reading grade level appropriate stories increases tutee literacy & language skills

RF.1.4: Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension
Objective
SWBT Describe the story using key details
SWBT Read with accuracy and fluency
Procedure
Tutee will read out loud & answer critical thinking questions

Questions
1. What color is the cat in the story?
2. What do you like to do at the beach?
3. What is your favorite kind of cupcake?
4. Do you like to go to museums?
9:40- Literacy Strategy: Stretchy Snake
9:45 am
Purpose
Students will work on both spelling and sounding out words.
Standards
L.1.2.d: Use conventional spelling for words with common spelling patterns and for frequently
occurring irregular words.
Objectives
SWBT spell common patters and frequently occurring irregular words
Procedures
TW introduce stretchy snake to the tutee
TW provide a list of letters that the student will need
Tutee will place a starting vowel pattern on the snake
TW ask student to spell a word with that pattern
TW have student remove the beginning or end and tutee will make a new word

9:45- Assessment:

Purpose
am Reading leveled passages will allow the teacher to gain a better understanding of student reading
levels
Standards
RF.1.4b: Read grade-level text orally with accuracy, appropriate rate, and expression on
successive readings
Objective
SWBT decode words using grade level phonics and word analysis skills
Procedures
TW read background statement to student & provide them with a passage
SW read the passage out loud
TW mark any miscues of the students’ reading
10:05- Word Study/Word Work:

Purpose
am Tutee will develop phonetic awareness and phonics skills by saying, seeing, and hearing the words in
the word sort
Standards
RF.1.3: Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words
Objective
SWBT decode and know word analysis skills to specified words
Procedure
Vowel Sounds: Long A; cvce; cvvc
Teacher and Tutee will read each word out loud
Tutee will sort based on vowel sounds into designated column
Tutee will read each column once all words are sorted
Teacher will instruct tutee to really listen for any mistakes & assist with finding error
10:10- Wrap up/review/closure: Read Aloud

am Reading stories of High interest encourages the student to want to read & develop literacy skills using
stories that they connect with and have a vested interest in
