The brainchild of Archimedes and Socrates, he is the overall leader and editor-in-chief of the magazine. Apart from
reading decent articles, Liam amuses himself by pondering on the stupidity of others. On occasion, he has been known
to publicly humiliate those who preach fallacies and halfwitted statements. 

RJ Huang, Prometheus’s Stomach

is an enigma of artistry and
creativity, fitting qualities for an art
editor. At the young age of five, he
was able to outclass all of Ithaca’s
artists in a speed-sculpting
competition. Although he has
quite the reputation, very little is
actually known about RJ. Editors
swear that the closest they’ve
reached to seeing him is seeing his
shadow, despite, ironically, being
the ad collector of the bunch.

The Promethean’s literary editor
has an appetite for songs, poems,
and wine. Polo is among Ithaca’s most prominent poets and harpists. While his verses are said to contain nonpareil
literary beauty, his love for alcoholic beverages clouds his mind, causing the obscurity of some of his works.

Maverick Cootauco, Prometheus’s Eyes and Ears

Every city has its own gossipmonger. In Ithaca, only Maverick knows all the latest trends and information. As features
editor, he basks in the land of insatiable curiosity. Though his intuitive sense is admirable, his methods prove to be
despicable. Once, he entered the bathing pool of Ithaca’s finest and most desirable women. Shortly after, we received
word from the local apothecary that his eye was mutilated. 

Marvin Amin, Prometheus’s Mouth

is sure to be present any social situation like an evening event, a casual chat, or an exclusive interview. Regarded as one
of the best conversationalists in Ithaca, Marvin creates the talk of the town. He is also Odysseus’s favorite member
among the staff.

Martin Ibasco, Prometheus’s Arms

- Martin serves as the magazine’s ambassador to foreigners. He likes reaching out to citizens of other nations, which is
why he handles all the letters sent to the editors. Rumor has it that he is dating fifteen different women from fifteen
different city-states across Greece. He is also said to have gone on hiatus with the goddess Aphrodite. A recent
interview was done with one of his many lovers, and her only sentiment was, "He definitely knows how to use his
hands."

Dear Reader,

Before anything else, I would like to thank you on behalf of the staff writers and editors
here at The Promethean. This is our first issue, and we worked really hard on formulating
the ideas and the coherence of the articles. In a nutshell, this release is focused on the
return of Odysseus and Ithaca’s state. A lot has transpired during this period and we felt
that everyone has the right to know the inside scoops and exclusive interviews. The editors
were able to grab hold of a Theban scholar visiting Laertes for an interview. In addition,
we have letters from all over the Aegean and even from the goddess, Athena. Forget about
the Code of Xenia, the Scylla, Charybdis, and the scared birth canal of Hera. This is both
Alpha and Omega, the omniscient and omnipotent figure in knowledge, philosophy, and
everything in between; this is The Promethean.

Prometheus was a man that defied
everything – he defied common
wisdom, defied the rules, defied the
gods. He was a man that wasn’t afraid
to try new things, to soar to new
heights, and to go where no man had
gone before.
That was the driving principle behind
the titling of our magazine. A
magazine with such a vision can only
deserve to be called The Promethean.
When thinking about the cover, I
wanted it to be something as original as
possible, so I didn’t base it off any
current or previous publication. Well, I
guess I took from stock knowledge that
already existed from my head, but
that’s it. The golden logo reflects the
nature of the magazine –high caliber

and first-rate, but also simple and easy
to like.
The main picture used reflects the
coverage of the magazine – Ithaca.
The magazine covers many different
topics about the state of Ithaca with
the recent return of Odysseus. From
the life of an ordinary citizen to an
exclusive interview with Odysseus
himself, the ins and outs of Ithaca are
explored in this publication. The
grounded theme of the publication
deserved an equivalently matter-of-fact
color scheme, without too many bright
colors and with more focus on the
content. The color scheme is supported
by the sophisticated and elegant layout
of the magazine.
With our target audience being the
erudite Greek, the featured articles on
the cover included an opinion piece on
the failed student of Plato, as well as a
feature piece on the life of the ordinary
Ithacan in the context of Odysseus’
return to the throne. The two bold lines
of text at the bottom of the cover
supplement this. These two articles
provide good food for thought and a
closer connection to the ordinary
people for our readers.
Thanks for taking the time to buy and
read this publication. I hope you have
just as much fun flipping through the
pages of this magazine as I had fun

A Bittersweet Homecoming

The father of Odysseus. Interviewed.
Ithaca, a small and rugged land, is ruled by the
powerful Odysseus. A man of great honor and
dignity, he always wins many battles against
strong and fearsome enemies. He is married to
beautiful Penelope, who bore a son named
Telemachos. However, there are people, whom
admire Penelope.
I have been the friend of Odysseus' father,
Laertes, since elementary years. He always tells
me different stories about his son, Odysseus. He
reveals to me the good times when Odysseus was
still living with them. But now, he is sick and sad.
I think this is because Odysseus never came back.
From what I heard, the villagers said that
Odysseus left for Troy to help King Menelaus in
rescuing Queen Helen from the Trojans. After
the war, the king never came back for almost 20
years. Just a few days ago, I visited Laertes to give
some fruits. When I arrived, he look healthy as a
horse. I was surprised at this. I asked him why
was he so joyful.
"My son, Odysseus, has came back. He also
recounted to me his journeys for the past 20
years. After that, I was just happy that he is
home.", he said cheerfully.
At that moment, I knew this could be a good
story to write about. I asked if he could retell me
some details about his journey. Laertes then
agreed.

Me: Why did Odysseus suddenly came back
home?
Laertes: My son has been trying to come back
home for the past several years. His journey was
not ever peaceful. Odysseus' journey was
interrupted by various creatures and natural
disasters he met along the way. He encountered
different natives like Lotus eaters, attacked by a
Cyclops, and trapped in the island of Calypso for
7 years.
Me: It is amazing how he still managed to come
home safe.
Laertes: Although he came home, it was not a
pleasant return.
Me: Why? Are the people not happy about this?
Laertes: Actually, my son came back home and
disguised as an old beggar (as told by Athena)
because there are foes (suitors of Penelope) who
want to win Penelope's hand and take over the
palace.
Me: I have heard about that from the villagers,
but how did he manage it?
Laertes: It was actually a coincidence. My son
was challenged by a beggar into a boxing match
and won fairly. The suitors happen to past by and
saw the match. One of the suitors, Amphinomus,
accepted him to the palace and gave him food.

Reflections and thoughts from a failed student of Plato.
Greeks are known to be very intellectual
people. After all, this is the land of Socrates,
Plato, and Aristotle. There is no other
philosophy or knowledge that can outwit and
outperform that of the Greeks. The central
figure of this wisdom and sense of reason is
the goddess, Pallas Athena. High up above in
the heavens, Athena stands as a pillar of
nonpareil judgement and intelligence. She is
the supreme commander of all tacticians and
scholars. Apart from this, she represents grace,
beauty, creativity, and poise. However, a group
of neanderthals stemming from the lands of
Ithaca has troubled the goddess’s peace and
tranquility. No longer are all humans logical.
This is the birth of a new breed of Greeks,
halfwitted and rotten to the core. A powerful

My king, how have you been?
I feel great. I was able to rest well
after my epic journey. I thank the
Phaikans for receiving me well as a
guest. And I have my wife also to
thank for tending to me when I
arrived.
You mentioned about the
Phaikans, what happened
during your stay with them?
The Phaikans are a very helpful
and great people. They were very
hospitable to me; they even
arranged a feast in honor of me.
While feasting, their king Alkinoos
encouraged me to introduce myself
since they were clueless of whom I
was. And so I introduced myself
and spoke of my journey them.

Rumors and stories are
circulating about your
journey. Are these rumors
accurate?
Yes, I have been hearing these
romors. I can say that they have
been very true. Yes, I escaped the
grasps of the likes of the Cyclopes
and the lotus eaters. My fleet was
already close when my stupid men
opened the bag of winds from
Aelus, even when instructed not to.
I also journeyed to the underworld
to retrieve wisdom of how to return
home without anymore delay. I was
stranded and tempted to stay in the
islands of Circe and Klypso;
cheated death when faced with the
giants, the sirens, the whirpool and
the Scylla.
Among everything you have
been through, which challenge
or hurdle would be the
hardest for you?
I have journeyed long and each day
was very tough. But the hardest
thing for me is probably leaving the
islands of Klypso and Circe. These
two women were very beautiful and
attractive; they offered me an
alluring life if I stayed with them. I
of course, decided to leave with the
drive to come home in order to be
united with my wife and son again.

when she learned about what

At first, she was angry but she also
forgave me after a while. I admit
that it was wrong for me to do that.

about the whereabouts of the
suitors and what happened to
them. Some say that you
killed them all. Is this true?
