I am writing in application for the Kindergarten teaching position as advertised on the Boyd County
Public School website. In May 2018, I will be graduating from South Dakota State University with a
Bachelor of Science degree in Education and Human Sciences with a major and certificate in Early
Childhood Education and an Elementary Education certificate from Dakota State University. I will
also graduate with a Human Development and Family Studies minor. While at South Dakota State
University, I recognized the importance of teaching to a variety of learners. Your school district’s
use of teaching to multiple intelligences is intriguing to me, and I believe that my philosophy and
dedication will go hand in hand with the school district’s needs and desires.

While student teaching at Wagner Community School, I witnessed how planning and instruction
developed young students in several ways. I also established strong relationships with both the
students and my colleagues. I found building rapport with students can and will go a long way for
both myself as a teacher, but also to better understand the students within my class. Community
involvement is very important to me. While in Brookings, my most rewarding community service
event took place while being part of the Brookings County Youth Mentoring Program in Brookings,
SD. During Fall 2017, I helped coach youth volleyball within the Boyd County School District.

Enclosed you will find my resume, transcript, completed application form, and letters of
recommendation. My official transcript, which is included, came directly from the SDSU Registrar’s
Office. I included three reference letters for your use, with an additional reference letter previously
sent via e-mail.

The Boyd County School District signifies exceptional educational standards and I hope to be part of
