Difference between Autonomous Colleges and Non-autonomous

colleges

Autonomous colleges are the colleges which are under the University but still very much
different from other colleges strictly under the university. They have the minimum interference
from the university. Still, matters like fees, seats,etc. are entirely decided by the university not
the colleges.

Following differences can be made out:

1. Autonomous colleges have their own syllabus, Non autonomous colleges follow same syllabus
in strict accordance with university.
2.Examination papers are set by the faculty in autonomous colleges, while paper is set by
university committee for other colleges.
3.Autonomous colleges provide with CGPAs or grades while the others get the marks.
4.Schedule is different for different autonomous colleges while same for each of the university
colleges.
5.Degree is jointly awarded by university and the colleges in autonomous cases.
6.Normally, Autonomous students get more of the holidays in comparison with non autonomous
colleges, thus providing them with ample time to do things apart from the studies such as
internships.
7.Non Autonomous colleges in Karnataka are said to have some of the craziest of the subjects,
as the subjects are decided by the old fashioned university committee.
8.It is said that in autonomous colleges, if you are noted by the faculties, then your fate will be in
the their hands.
NOTE:

Eligibility:

FOR ISRO: BE/B.Tech or equivalent qualification in first class with an aggregate minimum of
65% marks (average of all semesters for which results are available) or CGPA 6.84 on a ten
scale.

FOR AFCAT:The candidates must be graduates in any discipline from a recognised university
and must have attained minimum 60 per cent in aggregate and should have passed Maths and
Physics at Class 12 level or must possess a BE /BTech degree (four-year programme) from a
recognised university with minimum 60 per cent in aggregate.

FOR CSIR: MSc/BE/BTech or equivalent degree with at least 55% marks and one publication in
SCI Journal and should have completed at least two years of post MSc/BE/BTech research
experience;

OR
MTech/ME or equivalent degree in engineering/technology with at least 60% marks;
OR
BE/BTech or equivalent degree with at least 60% marks and two years research experience as on
the last date of application;
OR
MBBS/BDS or equivalent with at least 60% marks and one year internship;
OR
BPharm/BVSc/BSc(Ag) or equivalent degree with at least 55% marks and one publication in
SCI Journal and should have completed at least three years research experience;
OR
MPharm/MVSc/MSc(Ag) or equivalent degree with at least 55% marks and one publication in
SCI Journal and should have at least one year research experience.

FOR PMRF:

• have completed or be pursuing the final year of four (or five) year undergraduate or five year integrated
M.Tech or five year integrated M.Sc. or five year undergraduate-postgraduate dual degree programs in
Science and Technology streams from IISc/IITs/NITs/IISERs and centrally funded IIITs;

• have secured at least CGPA/CPI of 8.0 (in scale of 10.0). For applicants in five year integrated or dual
degree programs if separate CGPAs/CPIs are awarded for UG and PG parts of the program then the
CGPA/CPI of UG part (first four year) will be considered.
