Tutorial V
CPM Network
Note: Prepare Table for All network.

1 Prepare table for EST, LST ,EFT, LFT and Float. Find out Critical path for following network.

2 The following activities are given for construction of beam. Arrange all activities in order, assign
time duration to each activity, prepare network and find out critical path.

Activities for a project of casting of R.C.C. Beam over the door opening, are given below in
random order. Arrange them in a proper sequence, using an appropriate logic, assign time
duration to each activity and draw the network, and show all activities in network.

Mix and produce concrete, design the beam, order for wooden forms, bending of reinforcement,
order concrete materials, set concrete mixer at site, curing stage 1, preparation of form, erection
of forms, order for steel reinforcement, strip off side forms, place and compact the concrete,
place the reinforcement, curing stage II, strip off the bottom form work, design concrete mix
proportion.
3 Draw Network for following data and find out critical path.

6 Develop a network on the A_O_A system for a job with following activities and logical
sequence. Prepare table for EST, LST, EFT, LFT, Float, Critical path. Duration of each activity is
given in bracket.

 A (6) is the first activity

 B (5) and C (6) can be performed in parallel, and are immediate successor to A
 D (5), E (5) and F (7) follows B.
 G (5) follows E
 H (8) follows D, but it cannot start until E is complete
 I (7) and J ( 8) succeed G
 F and J precede K (9)
 H and I precede L (6)
 M (7 )succeeds L and K

 the last activity is N (8) succeeds M and C

7 Prepare table for EST, LST ,EFT, LFT and Float. Find out Critical path for following network.
8 Draw a network for the following relationships in a project:

1. Activity A (6) is the start event and K is the end activity

2. Activity B (9) depends on Activity A
3. C (4) and D (10) are successor Activities to B
4. D is the preceding Activity to G (5)
5. E (7) occurs after Activity C
6. E precedes F (9)
7. C restrains the occurrence of G and G preceded H (10)
8. H precedes J (5)
9. F restrains the occurrence of H
10. K (10) succeeds event J

9. Draw a network diagram from the following list of relationships among the activities:

10. A kalupur bank has taken up the project to modernize one of its branch offices. Some of the
existing office equipments will be disposed of but the remaining will be returned to the
branch on the completion of the renovation work. Tenders are invited from a number of
selected contractors. The contractors will be responsible for all the activities in connection
with the renovation work excepting the prior removal of the old equipment and its
subsequent replacement. The major elements of the project have been identified as follows
along with their durations and immediately preceding elements. Draw the network and
determine the critical path for the project.
