Before we start our lesson, let’s have a game. This game

Today, we are going to discuss about Philippine


Festivals. I know that you already have ideas regarding
on our topic.

Now, what comes first to your mind when you hear the
word festival?

Excellent! When we say, it is an event ordinarily


celebrated by community and centering on some beliefs
and its religion or traditions. Filipinos are fanatics of
festivals. In fact, there are approximately 300 different
festivals all over the Philippines. Their themes are also
differ from one another.

Why do you think Filipinos celebrate festivals?

The nature of festivals are religious and secular or non-


religious festivals.

What do you think is a religious festival?


Very good! It is celebrated to give honor for a patron
and saints. This was influenced by the Spaniards when
they came to colonize the Philippines.

I have here three well-known examples of religious


festivals.

They are the Ati-atihan festival, Sinulog festival and


Moriones festival.

religious festivals.

Correct! Non- religious festival is not related to religion
but a thanksgiving or celebration of peoples industry,

And here are the 3 examples of non-religious festival.

They are the Panagbenga Festival, Masskara Festival


and Kaamulan Festival.

Let’s discuss first the Panagbenga Festival.

Baguio City which celebrated on the month of February.

cultural festival held annually in Malaybalay City,
Bukidnon in the Philippines from the second half of
February to March 10, which is also the anniversary date
of the foundation of Bukidnon as a province in 1917.

It is held to celebrate the culture and tradition of the


seven ethnic tribal groups—Bukidnon, Higaonon,
Talaandig, Manobo, Matigsalug, Tigwahanon and
Umayamnon—that originally inhabit the province. It is Yes, sir.

Kaamulan comes from the Binukid word “Amul”, which


means “to gather”. It is gathering of Bukidnon

together.

To enliven the fiesta celebration, there are different


kinds of ethnic dance in Bukidnon. One of it is the
