Conversation strategies
Answer a question, then ask a similar one
You can show interest and keep a conversation going if you answer a question, and then ask a
similar question:

A So how was your weekend?

B Great. I went biking in the country. So . . . anyway, what did you do?

Anyway
You can use Anyway to change the topic of a conversation:

A So how was your weekend?

B Great. I went biking in the country. So . . . anyway, what did you do?

You can also use Anyway to end a conversation:

A I had a party Saturday. It was good.

B Really? Nice.

A Well, anyway, . . . I have to go.
