Summary of Philosophy Changes

As time goes on and people gain more knowledge on a subject there views and ideas

about that subject can change. This was not different for my philosophy about education. While I

do not think that my views and ideas changed a large amount I feel that I now have a greater

understanding about being a teacher and some guidance strategies and ways to make the

classroom and the activities more appropriate for the children’s development and growth.

A large part of my philosophy stayed the same, I have worked with children since I was

thirteen and I have taken other child development and guidance courses. So my main goal of

creating a safe environment for the children to grow and learn did not change. I think that

teachers should be able to help set children up for success, and that opinion did not change. I

think what did change was that I was able to gain knowledge and skills to support my philosophy

and recognize strategies and techniques that I personally support. Such as setting effective limits

and creating a developmentally appropriate environment for the children. So I feel that my main

thoughts did not change but my thoughts on how to create the environment that I believe to be

the most effective for children did change.

I think that it is important to realize that as we grow and learn our thoughts and opinions

on things change and this can affect how we react in certain situations. I think this is definitely
true of myself. As this semester has gone on there are definite things that I have changed my

opinions on and I think it is great to reassess my personal philosophy and see where I now stand.
