New Philosophy

“Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world” by Nelson

Mandela. It starts in the classroom where effective teachers help young students to discover the

world and its subjects, and how to communicate with each other. Early childhood education is

the most important phase in life because that's where children learn to discover and grow the

most. Children learn a whole new language and become native speakers before age 8

(Bredekamp, 2017, p.76). I believe in guiding my students to embrace the differences in

diversity and valuing equality for everyone no matter what age. I support classroom play for

younger students so that they learn early on how the world works while still enjoy being a child.

Creating special moments of learning would be my goal. I also want to become close enough to

my students parents so I can better understand their child and support them as much as I can. By

reaching out to parents and my community I will take on the role of a leader to bring everyone

together to focus on their children's education.

Any student can be taught through “targeted teachings strategies”(Bredekamp,2017, p.

284). I believe that every student has the potential to succeed in any subject through

“Developmentally Appropriate Practices,” given by an effective teacher (Bredekamp, 2017, p.

354). According to Sue Bredekamp, in Effective Practices in Early Childhood Education, is by

using both intentional teaching and DAP strategies, “teachers should carefully organize the

environment and select and arranges the materials to promote children's active engagement both
mental and physical” (Bredekamp,2017, p. 76). I believe that in the general common core or

extracurricular activity can a student find something they are interested in. Finding what interests

them and what makes them enthusiastic would be my goal to become an intentional teacher. So

that I may build upon them and relate it to classroom instruction to reach important goals in all

areas of development and learning. I want to drive my students by helping them dream, to be

courageous and creative. Effective teachers learn better by “widening their lens” of students of

different cultures or ethnicities to gather more information that relates to everyone (Bredekamp,

2017, pg.83). The struggles students face such as humiliation and being too scared to take risks

are moments that I hope to fix. I want to help them with these obstacles by being an example

myself, by humiliating myself, and going forward or show how to take a risk.

My personal role as a teacher is to get my students interested in learning and being

challenged. It is important to expand the students thinking and communication skills in early

education. I will hold standards for them to reach by the end of the year that relates to the states

standards. Making my students aware of their strengths and weaknesses could show me what

they rather focus on more, so if I were to do this to all of them I would be able to incorporate a

bit of everything into my lessons. This will be how I will balance the strengths of my students

from each other. I am in control of the classroom so I will be able to influence my students on

what appropriate morals are such as respecting everyone and being kind to others. I will be able

to do this by creating my own classroom community by making everyone feel a part of my

classroom. This classroom community will have different sections where everyone helps each

other and have equal roles in every group. I will also make sure that as a teacher I will always

think about different points of view to “widen the lens” on how I see and teach children

(Bredekamp, 2017, p. 83).

The way I will handle guidance and discipline is through working with the parents. I

would like to try to eliminate prejudice thoughts from both my students and their parents by

holding meetings with them every month and having meaningful conversations on what my

classroom wants to create. I hope to get them more involved in their children's academic life and

support their dreams if not I will be the one to care, guide, and to love and support their interests.

I plan to not take the learning out of disciplining a child. I don't plan on taking any learning away

from the student but I will talk to them about what they should be doing and have them show me

instead of just telling them what's right and wrong.

It is essential that teachers collect data from assessments to know where the student is at

and check their progress. It is also handy to collect the data of students misbehaving in class or

doing something wrong countless times so that the teacher can focus on fixing the problem

before it becomes like second nature. In order to make the assessment fair teachers should use

“many sources of information, they should observe students in different situations over time

rather than ability”(Bredekamp, 2017, p. 351). Letting parents aware of what my goals are for

the rest of the year together with their children will help set guidelines on where my class will be

every month. Also I would like to help the students learn what proper behavior and fairness in

my classroom to look like.

The moment I decided to become a teacher was when I noticed what made me happiest

and that was being around children. I currently volunteer as a tutor for an elementary school so

my experience so far as a tutor working with at risk students and students with exceptionalities

really helped me realize how much I want to help students learn and be prepared for life. I love

the idea of being responsible to guide my students minds to dream and show them that they can

succeed equally as anyone else. No one besides the teacher has worried about teaching me, so I
want to be that important person in students lives. No one will ever feel left behind because I will

make sure that I take every step of their journey through my classroom until they want to break

off from me when they are ready. I will have my students at the end of the year become socially,

emotionally, physically and intellectually ready for their future.
