Kahoot game on computer (https://kahoot.it/#/), and cells phones for kahoot game controller

Anticipatory Set (Lead-In):

The food chain follows the follow of energy transferred through the different living things as

they are consumed. The teacher will ask, does any remember what they had for breakfast today?

After there is a response. The teacher will use example given to get the students thinking about

the producers and the type of consumer that they are.

Step-By-Step Procedures:

1. The teacher will begin instruction with questions to get the students excited about the

food chain. (What food did you guys have for breakfast? Why do we need to eat food?)

The teacher will go over the learning objectives for the lesson. SWBAT correctly identify

the difference between producers and consumers given the information on the

presentation and games. SWABT correctly name the three different consumer types and

provide an example of what they eat.

2. The teacher will explain what the class will be doing for the day. Teacher will show Food

Chain PowerPoint presentation.

3. Throughout the PowerPoint (food chain), the teacher will ask for example of producers,

consumers, and decomposers. After the PowerPoint presentation is done the teacher will

guide the students into the first activity (food chain game). The teacher will demonstrate

how to get the food chain game website and how the game will be played.

4. The teacher will roam throughout the classroom answering any questions that the

students may have about the game and how to get to the website.

5. The teacher will introduce the next activity. This is the short interactive game of Kahoot.

The teacher will give instructions on how to get to the website of Kahoot on the students

cell phones that will serve as remote controllers for the game. The teacher will provide

the code number for the students to join game.

6. The teacher will begin game of Kahoot and the students will play the game. Once the

game is done. The teacher will give closure and review what the students should have

learned. The teacher will explain the rubric on how the students will be evaluated.

Plan for Independent Practice:

The students will get independent practice during the food chain game and practice what they

learned about producers, consumers, and decomposers. The game will provide students with

various examples of food chains that they will have to correctly complete. This will demonstrate

the knowledge that they have gathered from the lesson.

Closure (Reflect Anticipatory Set):

At the end of the lesson, the students will seat and review the concepts of the lesson after a game

of Kahoot. The teacher will go over the rubric on how the students will be evaluated.

Assessment Based On Objectives:

The assessments for this lesson will be the food chain game that the students will play online.

The game tests the students’ abilities to form food chains given different living things and

determine if they are consumers or producers. The second assessment is the Kahoot game.

During the game of Kahoot the students will be tested on the content of food chains, asking

different questions based on the information they learned to get an understanding of where the

class is.

Possible Connections to Other Subjects:

Learning about the food chain can create connections to other subjects such as physical

education and health. The students could make connections to the food that they eat and they

might have an interest on food and nutrition.
