Connections: What connections can you make between your goal and your school’s mission/vision? I can make several
connections between my school’s mission/vision. My goal is to always engage my students while I’m teaching. The school’s
vision is to challenge and engage every student. The Arts Integration academy has taught me how to create engaging
lessons that my students will find challenging and make them explore a different way of learning that they have never been
exposed to.
Challenges: What challenges do you see in implementing your plan? The biggest challenge I face is time. It takes time to
create the lessons and gather the materials because the Arts Integration piece is in addition to all of the standards I must
teach in a school-year. I found myself with many ideas and activities that I wanted to do, but I just couldn’t find the time.
The second biggest challenge is having the courage to step out of my comfort zone and teach in a way that is very new to
me and that I have to teach myself, first, before I feel comfortable teaching to the students.
Collaborations: What support will you need in order to implement your action plan? I need the support of my Arts
Integration team. It would be great if we sat down and planned our lessons together. It would save us time and the
collaboration would ensure that we taught the standard and we would help each other be more successful in
implementing the AI lessons. That way we would hold each other accountable and I believe be more successful.
Changes: What changes will you have to make in your current practices to complete your action plan?
In order to complete my action plan, I must commit to asking my AI team members to set a day and a time for us to plan
Arts Integration lessons for the upcoming school year. Our principal, Dr. Maynard, affords us many opportunities to plan
engaging lessons. Another change I would make is to plan at least 2-4 Arts Integration lessons before school even starts.
