BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:

● The student will demonstrate a clear understanding by showing their understanding of the different kinds
of plants around them.
● Academic Language is not addressed in IDT 3600.
● Upon completing this lesson, students will be able to identify the basic features of plants and their
function to the environment.
● I am aware that the lesson will be differentiated for students who did not master the objectives and for
those ready for enrichment. There are extra worksheets that can be given to students who need to learn
at much slower pace.

PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:

● Introduction: 40 minutes
● Describe the meaning of flora and go over the basic parts of plants (10 minutes)
● Have the students take turns drawing the flora they have seen in their own backyard, describing
each part (10 minutes)
● Present the video on how to make a PowerPoint (15 minutes)
● Allow the students to ask any questions/give feedback (5 minutes).

● Procedures:
 After the introduction, divide the class into 5 groups of 5 or 6 team members.
 The groups will be given 20 minutes to go to the schoolyard to find the plants they need
and record their evidence.
 Allow the groups 10 minutes to organize their finding and make sure they have all the
pictures they need.
 Once completed, lead the class to the computer lab where they can begin uploading their
findings (20 minutes)
 After the pictures are uploaded, the groups can then begin working on their PowerPoints
(30 minutes) describing each flora they have found.

● Closure: What do you have planned to close the lesson?
