Management in Language Education (MAMILE) 8-day course

Aim
To help language teaching professionals become more familiar with the skills and
knowledge needed to be successful in all aspects of Language Teaching management.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this module, students will:
 be critically aware of the key principles of language teaching management

 understand and use a full range of tools available for strategic planning and
project management

 be able to conduct full context evaluation and identify areas for institutional
improvement
 be able to identify, develop and evaluate effective monitoring and evaluation
tools
 understand and be able to apply the key principles of language teaching
management theory to a wide range of educational contexts
 be able to draft key management documents including role profiles, policy
documents, business plans, project proposals and marketing action plans

Key Skills
Key skills specifically developed by this module will include some or all of the following:
 Planning and carrying out research in aspects of ELT/language education
management

 Assessing the merits of contrasting theories and explanations

 Constructing and managing an argument

 Thinking and judging independently

 Critically judging and evaluating evidence

 Conducting a literature search

 Conducting an internet search

 Reflecting on own practice

 Constructing educational materials

 Organisational culture and impact on working practice

 Human resource management (motivation, appraisal, CPD and performance


management)

 General resource management

 Staff selection, team building, managing meetings and communication


 Leadership

 Project management

 Customer service and the student journey

 Marketing and sales

 Strategic and operational financial management

 Quality Management

 New product innovation and development

 Academic management

 Change management

 New trends in ELT and new approaches to ELT management

 ELT and digital innovation

Approaches to Teaching and Learning
 Experiential learning through trying out theory in practice

 Interactive mode of delivery through informal lectures, workshops, tutorials


and tasks

 Independent learning from reading and projects


 Development of critical awareness through informed reflection on experience

 Assessment through ‘real life’ tasks.

Course dates
Taught full time for 8 days (approximately 50 classroom hours)
Dates: February 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9, from 9 to 5 pm (face-to-face)

Course fee
USD 1190 to be paid 50% when enrolling (U$D 595) + 3 instalments of U$D 198 each
